  1. Lovely to hear that, comforting the dying is so important.
  2. I see it's being reported that former First Lady Rosalyn Carter died this Sunday at the age of 96. She died at home in Plains, Georgia. I expect former Pres. Jimmy Carter won't be long for this world without his long-term partner, as they were married for 77 years.(!) Rest in Peace Miss Rosalyn, Rest in Peace.
  3. I was so impressed when he appeared on the Wheaties box. Not only did he run a 3-minute mile, he jumped a 52-foot-long jump and won the Tour De France! What a he-man!

  5. 17 November... is the 321st day of the year 2023. There are 44 days remaining until the end of this year. 1973 During the Watergate scandal, U.S. President Richard Nixon held a press conference in which he declared, “I am not a crook.” (Spoiler alert- He was a crook.)
  6. Only Willie and Keith Richards know the secret to that.
  7. Not only that but she gets them to register to vote too. Oh, the shame!
  8. If Willie quits the Apocalypse will surely be upon us!

This an incredible find! from Wikipedia "The Hoxne Hoard (/ˈhɒksən/ HOK-sən)[2] is the largest hoard of late Roman silver and gold discovered in Britain,[3] and the largest collection of gold and silver coins of the fourth and fifth centuries found anywhere within the former Roman Empire.[4] It was found by Eric Lawes, a metal detectorist in the village of Hoxne in Suffolk, England in 1992. The hoard consists of 14,865 Roman gold, silver, and bronze coins and approximately 200 items of silver tableware and gold jewellery.[5] The objects are now in the British Museum in London, where the most important pieces and a selection of the rest are on permanent display. In 1993, the Treasure Valuation Committee valued the hoard at £1.75 million (about £3.79 million in 2021)." 10. Ha ha ha ha! I looked that picture up, impressive, and next to it was the photo of Trump crawling up the embankment at a golf course. Now if only Trump would disappear.
  11. While that may be true, many still prefer to smoke. From what I've been told, the high from edibles is not the same as from smoke. Also, fear mongering about health risks tends to be unconvincing to folks who prefer to smoke pot. Smoke 'em if ya got 'em, I guess.
  12. 15 November... is the 319th day of the year 2023. There are 46 days remaining until the end of this year. Microsoft released Xbox, a video game console system. Ever since then, the world has slid into chaos! Blame it all on Xbox.
  13. To be fair, I think she could take him in a fight.
  14. Whee! I plan to stay away like I always have. As for weed, what I’ve noticed is some pot smells like skunk weed some doesn’t. Smoke just doesn’t really bother me that much.
  15. Oh, I smoked there too. I quit several times before I quit for good in '89/'90.
  16. At my high school there was an unofficial smoking area on campus. Myself and other derelicts would hang out there at lunch and smoke. For reference, I graduated in 1974.

There are 47 days remaining until the end of this year. 1963 Iceland gets a new island when a volcano pushes its way up out of the sea five miles off the southern coast. Surtsey ("Surtr's island" in Icelandic, Icelandic pronunciation: [ˈsʏr̥(t)sˌeiː] ⓘ) is an uninhabited volcanic island located in the Vestmannaeyjar archipelago off the southern coast of Iceland. At 63.303°N 20.605°W Surtsey is the southernmost point of Iceland.[1] It was formed in a volcanic eruption which began 130 metres (430 feet) below sea level, and reached the surface on 14 November 1963. The eruption lasted until 5 June 1967, when the island reached its maximum size of 2.7 km2 (1.0 sq mi). Since then, wave erosion has caused the island to steadily diminish in size: as of 2012, its surface area was 1.3 km2 (0.50 sq mi).[2] The most recent survey (2007) shows the island's maximum elevation at 155 m (509 ft) above sea level.[3] Surtsey - Wikipedia
  18. From the article: Reality check: Technically, this apparatus will be inherited by any Republican nominee — Heritage officials tell us they've briefed the campaigns of Trump, Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley. So yes, I agree with you, this project isn't just for Trump, although he's definitely in mind. If someone else gets the R nomination, this project would be there for them too, as noted above.
  19. Behind the Curtain: Trump allies pre-screen loyalists for unprecedented power grab Trump allies pre-screen loyalists for unprecedented power grab (axios.com) Former President Trump's allies are pre-screening the ideologies of thousands of potential foot soldiers, as part of an unprecedented operation to centralize and expand his power at every level of the U.S. government if he wins in 2024, officials involved in the effort tell Axios. Why it matters: Hundreds of people are spending tens of millions of dollars to install a pre-vetted, pro-Trump army of up to 54,000 loyalists across government to rip off the restraints imposed on the previous 46 presidents. The screening for ready-to-serve loyalists has already begun, driven in part by artificial intelligence from tech giant Oracle, contracted for the project. Social media histories are already being plumbed. What's happening: When Trump took office in 2017, he included many conventional Republicans in his Cabinet and key positions. Those officials often curtailed his behavior and power. Trump himself spends little time plotting governing plans. But he is well aware of a highly coordinated campaign to be ready to jam government offices with loyalists willing to stretch traditional boundaries. If Trump were to win, thousands of Trump-first loyalists would be ready for legal, judicial, defense, regulatory and domestic policy jobs. His inner circle plans to purge anyone viewed as hostile to the hard-edged, authoritarian-sounding plans he calls "Agenda 47." The people leading these efforts aren't figures like Rudy Giuliani. They're smart, experienced people, many with very unconventional and elastic views of presidential power and traditional rule of law.
  20. From the NPR link above: Heard this on the car radio and I thought 'What creative writing! They're not just corrupt as fuck, they are just misunderstanding.' jfc, what bullocks!

There are 48 days remaining until the end of this year. 1907 Paul Corno achieves the first helicopter flight in an experimental machine he invented. The Cornu helicopter is reported to have made a number of short hops, rising perhaps 1.5 or 2 metres (5–7 feet) into the air and staying aloft for something less than one minute. This was long enough for Cornu to learn that the control systems he had designed were ineffective, and he abandoned the machine soon thereafter. Modern engineering analyses have demonstrated that the Cornu helicopter could not have been capable of sustained flight.
