  1. I hail you, my good sir, for that catchphrase. It's a really good one!
  2. Welcome to the boards, Justine! Don't worry about your English. Most people here aren't native speakers. Beware the spoilers since you're still reading! The boards are dark and full of spoilers.
  3. I realised I missed a lot of pages worth of introductions. I started forgetting the names :leaving:
  4. Welcome to all the newbies!
  5. How did you handle the sparkling vampires in Twilight? [sorry for going off-topic by the way, I'm just really interested]
  6. You clearly haven't watched any of the Twilight movies. At least in Vampire Hunter something happens, you have a plot and the characters actually do stuff. I wanted to pour acid in my eyes and never go to the movies after watching Twilight. Finally watched Eastern Promises. Saw Donald Sumpter (Maester Luwin) and the guy who plays Pyp. I think I saw Art Parkinson (Rickon) in the Dracula Untold trailer.
  7. Hey there. I just thought of something. A few months back I came upon a post [sorry but I remember neither the thread nor the name of the poster, most likely a Jon-centric one] I think might be relevant in the R+L series. The poster was analysing a Catelyn chapter, the one where she comes upon an old statue of an old king, I think Tristifer was his name. That post was so amazing and I think it had a lot of R+L symbolism and parallels. I'll try and find it. Sorry if it turns out to be nothing.
  8. Welcome to the boards to all the new posters! Hope you enjoy it here!
  9. You're welcome. Welcome, Stannis Inquisition.
  10. Thank you! The best way I can describe it is to quote wikipedia: "a form of Sufi devotional music popular in South Asia." It's very calming. It can be very poetic, it's just beautiful. Have you come across any spoilers yet?
  11. Hey there. Just discovered this thread, been here two months now, I think. Never introduced myself, guess I'm doing it now. (Sorry for short sentences, bit medicated). Welcome to the other newcomers. Also wanted to say this is the best forum I have come across so far. Most of the people here seem highly intelligent. Most of the conversations are civil, something I never experienced on other boards. Love the re-read projects and some of the theories. Overall, I've thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Oh year, I'm 24 and proudly South African. I absolutely love music. Big Pink Floyd, Leonard Cohen and Jimi Hendrix fan. I love all kinds of music: from Reggae to Qawali.
  12. I absolutely love the analysis. I never ship anyone (except Mickey Malkovich and Ian Gallagher in US Shameless) but your essay was so moving I find that my heart has grown three times. One of the things for which I applaud GRRM is that he strayed from stereotypes. I can't help but wonder how much more of this romance we would have seen if the first book had been written say, two years ago. Maybe the thing that makes is so special is the subtlety with which it was handled. Also, I'm trying to revive the thread, trying to get to Dany and Daario.
  13. Just watched How to Train Your Dragon 2. Absolutely loved it. One of the reasons I watched was because I'm a big Kit Harrington fan...awesome voice work.
  14. Sometimes I wonder why some of the people on this forum still watch the show. The comments posted while the show was airing will lead you to believe everyone is having a good time and loving the episode. But then it ends and people don't see the ONE thing they wanted to be there and suddenly it was all bad. Speaking as someone who started by watching the show and then reading the books, I have to say that I was generally more impressed with the show before I started reading the books. But that's because I came to the show with no expectations except thrilling entertainment. And that's what I got. This is the same reason the Unsullied are not complaining about the episode (from what I've seen anyway). The thing is that it was a BRILLIANT episode, like the rest of the episodes this season. Assuming that the biggest disappointment was Stannis the Missing, I get the feeling that if Stannis had made it to the wall people might have then started complaining about the manner of his arrival, or how he just didn't seem heroic enough, or how D&D deviated from the book, or how the lighting didn't hit his hair at just the right angle... In their disappointment people fail to realise that this is a show. Unlike GRRM's books, it has several limitations imposed on it. A lot of the things we read cannot be translated on to the screen. GRRM works with imagination and imagination alone. D&D work in the real world. I do admit that if the episodes were 10 minutes longer maybe that problem would not be so extensive. However, that would still strain the budget and D&D would still manage to piss off some people. The thing to do when watching this show is to cast away all book expectations. I loved the episode, book knowledge or not, it was brilliantly done. Even better than Blackwater in my opinion.
