    [Spoilers] Episode 806 Discussion

The snow at the beginning was ash. When Jon and the wildlings pass the Wall, there is a green plant shooting up out of the ground. So spring is coming.
  2. I think they just told Grey Worm that to placate him, thinking (rightly) that he wouldn't know the difference. So then when Jon gets to the Wall and there's nothing left to defend, he goes native. He was always more at home with the wildlings than anywhere else anyway.

    Gendry?

If Daenerys manages to be queen for 5 minutes, Gendry will be Lord of Storm's End. That's where he and Arya would rule.
  4. Ice Queen

    Gendry?

Only if she takes the throne, though. She obviously has no clue how the line of succession works. The minute he took the throne, the line derives from Robert, not Aerys. If Aerys and his whole family had been killed in a plane crash or a sinking ship, Robert would have been next in line. As a female, she never had a claim to the throne as long as there were any legitimate males still living. They had a Great Council about this. By legitimizing Gendry, she bumped him ahead of herself.

    Jon's biggest error?

No, he really doesn't. She had no intention of helping him even though she wanted to rule. True to form, she didn't care about what the North was facing and demanded straight away that he bend the knee. She's so single minded that she couldn't see the big picture, that 1/7 pf what she considers her kingdom was about to get wiped off the map while she sits on her laurels because their king won't kneel. It was childish and petulant. A good ruler would defend her kingdom as is her duty and not asked anything in return. This crap about him owing her his life is just that, crap. He handed her the North and became her vassal, diminishing himself in the eyes of his people. Her armies died because she's a terrible commander and that too is on her. Relationships don't function well if one party always says "You owe me."
  6. Ice Queen

    Jon's biggest error?

He's still not responsible. A queen who won't defend her people is no queen at all. As his liege, it was her responsibility to protect the North. He owes her nothing.

    King Gendry I Baratheon

Well, it would have been Stannis, then Renly. If Joff and Tommen had been legitimate they would have come first. Let's not forget that Robert had 16 children, and we only know of Mya Stone, Gendry, Edric Storm and Barra.

    Jon's biggest error?

He's not responsible for her state of mind. And why can't she understand that he's probably feeling confused right now as well? He just found out that his whole childhood was a lie and that the man who raised him isn't his father, his sisters aren't his sisters, and now has a claim to the throne. If that isn't enough, he's in charge of thousands of people who are probably going to die. He's being a jerk? So is she. It's all about HER, how SHE feels. She's a classic narcissist, and her feelings are her own responsibility. Not once does she try to understand his point of view.

    Poor children...

Arya is Indian and means "noble goddess". Aria means "lioness" in Hebrew. (She must be a Lannister.) I always liked the name Asha, which is a real name as well. There are two forms of it: Sanskrit for dream or desire, and Swahili for life. There is also a Hebrew and Aramaic version in Aisha. Edit: Sansa is a variety of apple. Apples are the symbol of youth and beauty.

How will they react to what happened?

The Baratheons are descended from a Targaryen princess. That's how Robert was able to claim the throne. When Robert asks Ned why he didn't take it, Ned says, "You had the better claim." And he was right.

How will they react to what happened?

I disagree. It would be the height of hubris, irony and tragedy for her to believe she is immune to fire ("He wasn't a true dragon or he wasn't have died"), and then be burned to death by one of her dragons. Has she never heard of Summerhall?
  12. If there was any political message, it was nuclear war and nuclear winter. The peasants dream of a summer that never ends, which in our world is considered A Very Bad Thing. We grew up hearing how nuclear winter would last years if not decades. All plant life would die from lack of sunlight and those who didn't die from radiation poisoning would die of starvation.
  13. With the rise of authoritarianism around the world, these are great ppints to keep in mind. "Oh, it can't happen here!" Oh yes it can.
  14. Completely agree, and imagine if Rhaego had lived. I wonder if she knew the dragons would hatch?

How will they react to what happened?

Let's go with that for a minute. She is Azor Ahai, the destroyer of worlds.

How will they react to what happened?

It's just another example of them not paying attention to detail. I doubt it will matter in the end, but I seriously question whether or not they've actually read the books carefully.

    This is all Jon’s fault

I was going to mention this and add that those uncles were only half uncles, not full uncles. There would be slightly more genetic variation. As an aside, even marriages between first cousins can produce children that are not healthy. Charles Darwin himself married his first cousin and was convinced that his children's abnormalities were the result of a lack of variation in the family tree. He didn't know about genes, but the closer the relationship, the greater the chance of ASDs and inbreeding depression.

    This is all Jon’s fault

Alys's wedding didn't take place until ADWD. They are wary of Jon's plans but they don't put up much of a fight about it, either. And yes, some were taken on the other side of the Wall. The current Starks may well be descended from Bael the Bard. You think northeners didn't rape wildling women? Of course they did. The free folk know what incest does and it is an abomination. Several other characters make comments about incest, too. Just because they put up with it from the Targs doesn't mean it's condoned. The Faith Militant rebelled when Aenys married his daughter Rhaena and son Aegon to each other. Robert would not have been condemned for killing Cersei and Jaime. I would hope he'd spare the children, but he probably wouldn't. And he wouldn't have been condemned for that either.

    This is all Jon’s fault

Textual evidence? The Flint and the Norrey came to Alys Karstark's marriage to Sigorn and didn't put up a fuss at all. There's going to be a wildling lord in Karhold and nobody cares. Mance and six wildling women risk their necks to save Jeyne Poole. One even gets pissed at Theon for saying Lord Eddard's words--she even calls him Lord Eddard. The only difference between the wildlings and the rest of the North is that some were on the right side of the Wall when it was built.

How will they react to what happened?

I've already addressed this. Martin is the Word of God, and he says she's not. The showrunners screwed up.

    This is all Jon’s fault

Craster was reviled by everyone for it. Didn't some of the Watch want to kill him because of it?And he was sacrificing to the Others...had to get those boys from somewhere, right? Wildlings ARE northerners. They all share the blood of the First Men and the old gods. Their views are in line with the rest of the North.
  22. Ice Queen

How will they react to what happened?

And as I recall he was pissed at them for doing it. He had made that comment LONG before D&D came on the scene. They didn't do their homework.
  23. Ice Queen

    This is all Jon’s fault

Ygritte makes it pretty clear how the North feels about it and gives Jon a lecture about sleeping even with people from your own village, never mind a close relative. If I remember right, Jon asks her if she slept with Longspear Ryk.
  24. Ice Queen

How will they react to what happened?

She is not immune. Her stunt on Drogo's funeral pyre was the result of magic. Martin is on the record years ago saying that if she tries it again she will die.
  25. She even looks a little smug at one point, like she's enjoying their reaction to her.
