U.S. Politics: For Whom the Bell Polls

This can easily go the other way. How many closet Beto fans are there in Texas? We'll find out.

Women have killed men with those stilettos. They should be careful what they wish for. I used to wear heels all the time, and then I got plantar fasciitis. A 1" heel is okay. Anything more than that and you can forget it.

Ugh, really? Those books were barbaric. I probably shouldn't be surprised, but I am!

Plant them at least 40 feet apart. Not only do they grow about 80 feet tall, but their root systems extend at least that far underground.

The only thing we're good for is as breeding vessels, especially for conservatives. We have to keep the US white somehow.

From Psychology Today: False allegations of rape, from a legal perspective, typically refer to one of the following situations: “(1) a report of forced sexual contact where there was no sexual conduct at all; (2) a claim of forced contact where the actual encounter was consensual; or (3) an accusation of a particular person when the complainant knows that her assailant was someone else.”1 Source: Epstein, J. (2006). True lies: The constitutional and evidentiary bases for admitting prior false accusation evidence in sexual assault prosecutions. This is a local case. I hope the boy wins because that is completely unacceptable and they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. However, in an article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, their lawyer says:

You sure? Everyone has a family legend. In my mother's family, it's that my great-grandmother (and her mother, and so one through who knows how many generations) was a gypsy. No idea if that's true or not. Someone is going to have to take a DNA test to find out for sure.

Actually, the reactions of some white supremacists when they find out they have African genes is priceless. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/science/white-supremacists-respond-genetics-say-theyre-not-white Where's the Muggleborn Registration Commission when you need them?

As a species, we're Heinz 57, of course, but New England is ridiculously homogeneous. The further south and west you go, though, not so much. There was A LOT of admixing going on, not just with black slaves but with the Native Americans, too. Some of the Seminoles have a very high percentage of European genes in them. It wasn't too long ago that people were bragging about having 1.5% Neandertal genes. And let's be honest, we all know people who have the archetypical Neandertal features...and those are from 25,000+ years ago. Edit: My dad's family has been here since Jamestown, Indian massacres and all. I probably have a Native American or two in my gene pool, too.

You do know that during Jim Crow, if you had one drop of African blood you were considered black, right? That's why it was called the One Drop Rule. And then there was the Racial Integrity Act of 1924 (Virginia). ANY black ancestor, no matter how long ago, disqualified someone from being white. All of this was to make sure that light skinned African Americans couldn't pass themselves off as white to avoid Jim Crow.

Not all that long ago, people were proud to get their DNA results and find out they have 1.5% Neandertal genes.

Corn is food, not fuel. Ethanol also kills your mpg. Anything higher than E10 in non-flex fuel vehicles corrodes the engine.

I had a Honda and the manual said the same. Only if your vehicle is flex fuel can you go higher than E10.

    Haircuts

I try to get my hair cut every 6 weeks but it doesn't always work out that way. Last fall, just after Thanksgiving, I woke up one morning and decided I couldn't stand my hair a minute longer, so I told my boyfriend I was going to get a haircut. I didn't tell him I was cutting it all off. The poor man almost had a heart attack. I've been trimming it on schedule, so I can just about get it into a ponytail again. I color my own hair. I refuse to pay salon prices for something I can do myself. Many of my friends went to cosmetology school and I was always their guinea pig, even when one of them tried to bleach my hair blond 3 months before senior prom and completely fried it. I practically had to have a crew cut to get that out. My hair is red, and for years I tried to hide it because it wasn't the in thing. Now that I want it back, the red is fading and will eventually turn white. I'm lucky...I'm almost 50 and if the worst that happens is that it fades, I won't complain about it. So, I use henna and lemon juice on it. It brightens it and makes the faded tones a red gold color. No harsh chemicals, and it stays in for a really long time. I do my roots once a month and an all over every 2-3 months. Total cost: $13.95 (with shipping) for 6 months worth.

I have been arguing with people about this--your approach is short-sighted and dumb. We need Manchin in that seat no matter how we feel about him personally. West Virginia is the last bastion of the Blue Dogs, for the moment, until a better candidate comes along, I'm not going to pretend to know what his motives were, but I'll take someone who votes with the Dems 40% of the time vs. someone who votes with the Republicans 100% of the time. Can WV Dems do better? Yes, no question. But don't push too hard to the left or you'll lose that seat for all time to the Republicans. We need to think strategically. You, and many others who would love to see all seats to be held by progressives, aren't being very tactical. You're reacting. WV and WPA aren't progressive (yet). As someone said, all politics are local. You're not going to get an Elizabeth Warren there. Be happy for every D there is instead of wishing he'd lose simply because they didn't vote the party line. That's throwing the baby out with the bathwater, and as a party we need to be smarter than that. Our democracy depends on it. Edit: This sums it up pretty well. https://thehill.com/opinion/campaign/410713-joe-manchin-future-republican

The western part of the state with Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons is simply breathtaking, but once you hit the middle, egads! It's even more desolate than the Dakotas! You can go for hundreds of miles and not see another single living thing.

Add Wyoming to that list. More people live in Alaska than Wyoming, and there are countless counties across the US that have larger populations than that entire state. And yet they get equal representation.
