Werewolves in Westeros?

Tolkiens' wargs were a race of wolf-like creatures that the orcs used as mounts. They were said to be inhabited by evil spirits, but we never saw one up close to know what they were about. In the Silmarillion (which was not written by Tolkien, btw, be cobbled together by his son from his notes, so we have no idea if Tolkien used 'werewolves' either) the wargs were said to be descended from Draugluin, who is described by some as the first of the werewolves of Beleriand. In any event, there is too little evidence to know exactly who they were or what they did.

And just like with the terms warg and werewolf, Polly, you're still having trouble with the word "dictate." Nobody is dictating anything. It's just that if you would like to do your readers and listeners a favor by not confusing them with all this talk of werewolves in ASIAOF, you'll use the term warg. But you obviously don't, so forget it.

Yes, the Wargs were sometimes ridden by Orcs. I'm not sure this is a characteristic of the race.

IIRC, it was the werewolves who were said to be inhabited by evil spirits. I don't think this was ever explicitly said of wargs. It's probably true though. From JRRT's non-materialist perspective, it is pretty much a no-brainer that most evil creatures will be inhabited by an evil spirit of some sort.

It is simply incorrect to say that the Silmarilion was not written by JRRT, or that it may have been Chis Tolkien who chose the term "werewolf". It is true that JRRT left it unfinished at his death, and Chris Tolkien put it into publishable form, and perhaps even made a questionable decision or two, but you hugely exaggerate his role.

Wikipedia says that wargs may be descended from Draugulin, but does not cite a source. This is probably fan speculation. IIRC, JRRT never explicitly made such a connection.
