Should brothels be banned?

I come form an almost opposite line of reasoning. I think that it is exactly the 'locking away' of sexuality, that texts like the Bible have enforced, that create sexual repression and disallow society to move forward whilst integrating sexual freedoms into correct functioning.

Agreed

Best part about all this? No matter how much you moral police post about how paid sex should be illegal, it isn't, and in future it will only be more and more accepted and decriminalized throughout the world.

That's a foolish sentiment.

Prostitution was completely legal and practiced openly in the ancient times through to the 1800s (much like slavery and mob lynching), and one by one many countries made it illegal. Often times the people who rallied for it to be illegal were progressives, feminists, and other liberal thinking groups. If anything, prostitution is becoming less accepted as time goes on.

And there is nothing wrong with having a few morals. I admit that human trafficking and sexual slavery are things I am morally opposed to. Placing morals into law is how chattel slavery became illegal, and that is seen as a good thing in most circles.

The nordic model could be accepted by Europe eventually. This will criminalise the act of paying for sex. It could reduce street prostitution. Escorts and massage parlours may remain unaffected, so legit prostitution could continue.

I would like to see more effective policing against gangs not johns. I reject the underlying morality of the nordic model whilst sympathising with its aim of reducing trafficking. It strikes me as a dishonest law, one with good intentions backed up by dodgy moral sentiment.

Cool, now stop comparing slavery, murder, rape, and other such crimes to paid sex. Thanks.

Human trafficking (which almost always involves rape) and prostitution usually go hand in hand. Also, human trafficking is often called a modern form of slavery. And sometimes prostitutes are murdered by their pimp (if she wants to leave her profession) or their customers (if the John doesn't want to pay up).

So, the comparisons would be actually pretty accurate.

And anyway, the only reason I originally compared those things to prostitution is that they (like prostitution) are examples of how putting morals into law has been a good thing. They are all also examples of how making something illegal may not get rid of it completely, but will still drastically reduce it.
