Why did Sandor follow Joffrey so loyally until the fire in the battle of blackwater?

Why wouldn't he? Who pays better than the Lannisters? More gold means more booze and whores so he can try to forget his pitiful existence

That and it would be harder for Gregor to try to kill some one who is employed by his liege lord to protect the future king. Gregor has to bow to Tywin, perhaps Sandor thought that being employed by Tywin would protect him.

Most poeple seem to think Sandor was in it for the pay or an easy job until Sansa came along... Very nice! It actually reminded me of how Gilgamesh starts... He is an animalistic being until a girl gives him wine and couples with him then he becomes human... kindda like Ser Jaime :D
