A Kingsguard for Elia and children

What if Rhaegar Targaryen had left one of the Kingsguard  (probably   Oswell Whent  or Arthur Dayne) who  OTL was at the tower of joy to guard Elia and children instead of relying on Jaime to guard them?could the single Kingsguard had stoped the Mountain and Amory Lorch?

Most likely no. Muhammad Ali in his prime could not beat up two other decent fighters in the same weight class as him. Numbers are going to have a big effect especially when they are all similarly trained and equipped, it is why the 7 beat the 3 at the Tower of Joy.

Plus it is not like Tywin would have simply gave up when two of his men failed, he'd just send more men to do the job. So even if Dayne could beat the odds and kill both the Mountain and Lorch he'd just be delaying the inevitable.

If Rhaegaer wanted to save his family he should have sent word to Storm's End and had the Reach army join him, given command of the Vanguard to Tarly and crushed Robert and the Rebels with both superior numbers and troops of the same calibre if not better.

True. Rhaegar was not a good commander.  He didn't think it through.
