Faydra
Someone had to start this thread. In my opinion Aerys is one of the most intriguing villains. He made a hobby out of mocking Tywin. It would be quite something if Aerys actually knew about Tywin's refusal to the marriage pact (set by Joanna and the princess of Dorne) when he married Rhaegar to Elia. Mad Monkey
That must have been a horrifying scene though:“There were trials. Of a sort. Lord Rickard demanded trial by combat, and the king granted the request. Stark armored himself as for battle, thinking to duel one of the Kingsguard. Me, perhaps. Instead they took him to the throne room and suspended him from the rafters while two of Aerys’s pyromancers kindled a blaze beneath him. The king told him that fire was the champion of House Targaryen. So all Lord Rickard needed to do to prove himself innocent of treason was . . . well, not burn. “When the fire was blazing, Brandon was brought in. His hands were chained behind his back, and around his neck was a wet leathern cord attached to a device the king had brought from Tyrosh. His legs were left free, though, and his longsword was set down just beyond his reach.
Prince of the North
Thanks for the quote MM! It reminds me of just how ill and dishonorably Aerys treated the Starks. I will say, however, that Aerys was a good ruler until he went mad ;) Methinks I'll go find a Jaime Lannister appreciation thread to post in... Darth Visenya
yes, when Rickard demanded trial by combat. Brandon was not burned but forced to watch while strangling himself in the effort to save his father. He also started a trend-killing Starks is funny. Gurkhal
For my sake he was obviously nuts but he killed some Starks and made a Lannister his Hand, so he couldn't have been all bad.
