TheLordProtector
Long time lurker, first time poster. Something that I have always been curious about, piqued all the more by the recent A+J=T theory; Is there anywhere that specifically states that the dragon having three heads means that there has to be three dragon riders? It seems a lot of people are equating the two and I'm wondering if it's canon?
Armstark
I believe it is not stated explicitly, but of course it is easy to make the connection. Personally I believe the saying has a different meaning.

TheLordProtector
It is a fairly easy connection to make but if it's not explicitly stated in the books or even an SSM then an awful lot of theories are built from what could be a faulty assumption.Theories specifically about there needing to be three Targaryen dragon riders could be completely away with the fairies. sj4iy
I think there will be "three heads", but I see it as an important clue that Rhaegar wanted three children because he thought THEY would be the ones to fulfill the prophecy.
House Obama
Maybe the dragon is Dany, and hers three heads are the actually dragons she possess!

They are hints as to how to bring back dragons. Reverse them and you have exactly what Daenerys did: First the tent with MMD's blood magic (blood) and then the funeral pyre (fire). One head (Rhaego) becomes three dragons.
The Dragon has three heads
What about me?
Hos the Hostage
I think there should be three dragonriders because there are three dragons. No one knows for sure what the 'Dragon has three heads' means. Most people assume it is three dragonriders like Aegon and his sisters. GRRM has said that all three heads need not be a Targaryen. But it could be that the head that's nonTarg is some one nonTarg by name but carrying Valyrian blood that's required to ride dragons. Or the three heads could be nothing to do with dragonriders. SerWalterPuffsAlot
I'm guessing 3 dragon riders only because we had the short story about the Dance of Dragons and i thought that gave us some good info on different ways to become a rider. And you get the fact that only Targs are riding too so that helps narrow down who the riders can be

Hos the Hostage
If I recall correctly; not everyone who rode a dragon in tPatQ was a Targaryen, or even of Valyrian descent. They were all Targaryens or Targaryen bastards. Had dragon blood, however dilute. Not sure about Nettles, but there are some theories like her dragon may not have come fromTargaryen stock of eggs, but was already there in Dragonstone.
