New Look Guessing Game: Most Intelligent

Bustard

Recommended Posts

Welcome to our 10th version of the New Look Guessing Game! It seems like only yesterday we were experimenting with our first one :crying: A special congratualtions to Ser Blackfyre who stands as our reigning champion!

PM me, Bustard, with your Top 20 list for this category. Note: only human characters beginning with Robert's Rebellion qualify. The #1 character on your list will receive 20 points, #2 will receive 19 points, and so on until #20 receives 1 point.

How the game is played -

Round 1:

Instead of providing a clue (like the other guessing game), I will begin by offering the names of #21-#30 in alphabetical order. At this point, participants will submit what they believe to be the most likely order.

For every correct guess, the participant receives 5 points. For every guess that is off by 1, the participant receives 3 points. For every guess that is off by 2, the participant receives 1 point.

For ties, participants receive 4 points for guessing within range and 2 points for missing the range by 1. (No points awarded for missing range by 2.)

Round 2:
When the first round of guessing is complete, I will reveal #11-#20 in the same fashion. However, the point values double. [10, 6, 2 points] [Ties: 8, 4, 0]

Round 3 (Final Round):
Again, I will reveal #1-#10 in alphabetical order. The point values do not double again, but increase by the same increment. [15, 9, 4 points]

**Plan for a tentative launch on March 26 7:00pm WTS (if enough people send lists by then).

To quote lil' ghost: "If you have any questions, feel free to PM me or ask on here. If not, then the game is on! :commie: "

I'd like to ask a question that is quasi philosophical, a part definition. In AGOT Catelyn is sailing in KL with Ser Rodrik and thinking about seeing Littlefinger again. She thinks to herself that LF has always been clever, but she's not sure that is wisdom.

And that is my question, I assume you mean cleverness - the ability to figure out the chess moves to get what you want?

Wisdom I would define as realizing that the throne is not much of a prize, unless you have a talent for ruling. It's the ability to see the big picture and the long view.

This kind of question is right up my alley. I'm a philosopher at heart :) That said, I don't want to overcomplicate the directions here....

Wisdom and cleverness each require a certain brand of intelligence, but I'm more concerned with the magnitude of intelligence than I am the brand. In other words, it really depends on your own impression of what makes someone intelligent. Hope that helps!

I opened the thread to make a similar point to HC. I think if I send a list I'll just base it on brains not what you do with them. But for a future topic can I suggest something as boring as 'Most sensible'. Because I admire the flashy brainy people who don't necessarily behave sensibly but I also admire the quietly sensible people who head for the hills when the trouble starts, etc. They will not necessarily be leading characters.

I would definitely play (or host) a "most sensible" guessing game. Sounds like something different- I like that.

In other words "I know intelligence when I see it"* (in the original quote the underlined word would have been "pornography"). ;)

I haven't written my list yet, but should be able to do so tonight.

Great topic!

I think I'll be able to send a list by tomorrow, if that's not too late.

Perfect, not too late at all!

Bustard - i tried sending you a message, but it says your box is full

Sorry- just cleared out a bunch of messages so it should work now.

Haha, exactly! My law classes beat that one to death. All hell breaks loose without "clearly defined parameters."
