Who would play whom?

Whenever I picture Cersei, I see Sharon Stone and Jamie is Matthew McConnnawhatever his name is. Tyrion is the little guy who was a friend of Kramer in Seinfeld. Robert Baratheon is always that red-headed friend of William Wallace in Braveheart. I guess he'd have to dye his hair. Varys always ends up being that priest from Kevin Costner's Robin Hood. Personally, I always have to attach a face to the characters to remember them.

Just a few

Ed Harris - Tywin Lannister

The Rock - Khal Drogo

Morena Baccari (Inara from Firefly) - Melisandra

Bruce Campbell - Dolorous Edd

Half of me thinks that Tom Cruise would make a spectacular Littlefinger, the other half thinks that half is insane.

This is probably some major typecasting but how about a blonde Polly Walker (A.K.A Atia of the Julii from Rome) to play Cersei. Walker is really really good in the role and I would certainly love to see her portrayal of Cersei.

It's just a shame Atia's nemesis Lindsay Duncan (Servilia of the Junii) has no character to match with. :(

Both are fantastic in their roles on Rome - the soul reason I watch the show.

Keeping with the theme of stealing actresses from Rome - how about Indira Varma (Niobe) as Arianne or Ellaria?

Jonny Depp would make a great Jaime (he could pull off the attitude perfectly, I think), but it's take a LOT of bulking up to get him buff enough to pass as a medieval knight.

Mickey Rourke would be a good Sandor (just rewatched Sin City and thought of him). He can do the raspy voice and uglies up well, and is also good at going on ax rampages.

I always pictured Catelyn as a bit of a red-haired Jodie Foster when I read the books.

Lady Merryweather could be done by Monica Belucci, I think.

That's all I have for the moment.

Oh, I've posted in this sort of thread enough times to be banned for it, but since my list is relatively short I'll post again. I do tend to mentally cast actors for the various roles, but I don't go so much by looks (since the imagination can fill in wherever there's an inaccuracy) as by the sorts of attitude I've known the person to perform particularly well.

Thus, I've always gone with Peter Stormare for Sandor Clegane - angry, brooding, someone who really enjoys chopping people in half.

Likewise, I can't help but see Varys as Paul Reuben - oily and sibilant but deliberate, conscious of every gesture, doing everything for effect.

Alan Ford as Qyburn - grandfatherly, as the book describes him, a comforting presence to someone in a sickbed, but a person equally capable of turning around and doing the unspeakable.

David Warner or Alan Rickman as Roose Bolton - soft-spoken, genteel, completely unhinged.

Ed Harris for Tywin is definitely a good call. Thinking about him from the Rock, he could totally play Tywin.

Ed Harris would make a great Tywin.

Whoever suggested "Sawyer" from Lost as Jaime, that's a brilliant casting suggestion.

How about these:

Johnny Depp: Littlefinger

Maegery Tyrell: Kristin Bell

The Reanimated corpse of Orson Welles: Robert Baratheon

Brendan Gleeson: Jorah Mormont

Angelina Jolie: Melisandre

The Rock: Areo Hotah (I don't know why, but I envision the Rock...)

Ryan Philippe as Joff (the pouty worm-like lips)

Dakota Fanning as Arya- with brown hair though like in that stupid movie with Robert de Niro - hide and seek, was it?

Josh Haloway (Sawyer from Lost) as Jaime (great suggestion by someone else)

Nicole Kidman or Gwyneth Paltrow as Cersei

Cate Blanchet as Catelyn

Diane Kruger as Dany

Heath Ledger as Jon

These are all great. I like this thread.

Tell me this isn't Kevan Lannister exactly though (I'm probably crazy).

Sawyer is played by Josh Holloway

Thanks.

How about Ian McShane (Deadwood) as Balon Greyjoy;

Viggo Mortensen as Bronn

and Julian McMahon as Renly Baratheon.

Diane Kruger as Daenerys (she even has a good accent!) and Russell Crowe as Sandor are brilliant.

I think Sean Bean would make a good Halfhand...or even Randyll Tarly.

Khal Drogo=Vin Diesel. If you re-arrange the letters in Vin Diesel's name, it spells out Khal Drogo's motto: "I end lives".

I actually like Julian McMahon as Tarly -- he's got the hard edges and the face that looks as if he would butcher his fat son like a deer.

heh - Diane Kruger is only 10 days older than me, :P

I think of Tarly as balding and in later middle years, but McMahon would be a great choice to put in the movie/television show, period.

One of the problems with visualizing Martin's characters (at least for me) is that their chronological ages are always about five years younger then I envision them (if the character is under the age of 30). I mean, does anyone really think of a 15 year old when they envision Robb Stark? Or a 13 year old when they envision Daenerys (if you do, shame on you!).
