I read and enjoyed Hex a few years ago. Same description, really creepy and really messed-up in a good way. I've been curious about Echo. Recently really liked The Dark Forest by Cixin Liu, sequel to The Three Body Problem. It has me really looking forward to the Netflix show next month. Currently reading and enjoying Babel by RF Kuang.

Understandable. There have been books even in general fantasy that people on these boards have raved about over the years and when I got to them I was baffled as to what they saw in them.

Also on the espionage side of things, this year I've been starting to work through the Slough House series by Mick Herron, basis for the AppleTV show Slow Horses. The show is really good, and the books are even better. Currently on book 4, Spook Street and for me they've gotten increasingly better. Compelling writing, good characters, a bit of humor, along with one or two nicely done backstory revelations in each book so far.

The Ferryman by Justin Cronin is currently $1.99 on US Kindle. Decent read, but kind of predictable. Didn't like it nearly as much as his Passage trilogy.

I really enjoyed Red Rising, thought the 2nd one exceeded my expectations, then thought the 3rd one (Morning Star?) was just ok, little bit of a let down. How has the series progressed since then? I've though a few times about picking it up again.
