Fragile Bird
I realize golf is not the most popular sport on this board, but I know there are fans lurking out there. With Jordan Spieth's amazing win in the Masters this year, followed by the surprising turn of events at the US Open, he could make history by winning The Open Championship. Right now he's sitting pretty after the first round, tied for 8th at -5, 2 shots behind the leader, Dustin Johnson. Please make your comments as you follow the rounds! lmanion
Maybe a title change to the open championship would go better some people cut up about calling it the brittish open. But yes im watching speith has the sort of game that should put him up there in almost any tournament he enters the bigger question is will the weather break up on him in the afternoon today. Im hoping for scott and day to get up there and crossing fingers after yesterday for tiger just to make the cut. Zach johnson is having a good run atm hopefully fowler can make a few birdies to get up the leaderboard as well!
Fragile Bird
Calling it The Open Championship really only speaks to dedicated golf fans, the world calls it the British Open. There are too many open championships in other sports, I'd rather catch the eye of more people. :)Attending an Open is on my bucket list, and my brother scoffs at me. Why would you want to freeze your butt off and get rained on for 4 days and miss most of the action, he always tells me. Today is one of those days, and we may see major changes to the leaderboard. Fragile Bird
Yesterday's tribute to Tom Watson was wonderful. It was a shame he had such a lousy round, but his comments that there should be no tears, only joy for having had the opportunity to spend so much time on the old course were great. It was obvious that the committee let play continue as dark fell so he could have his moment in front of the crowds, and not at 7:00 am. As it happens, he poetically crossed the Swilcan bridge on the 18th at sunset. The other person playing his final round was Nick Faldo, and it was amusing to see he wore the same sweater (and it fit!) on the 18th hole that he wore when he won his first of three Opens in 1987. I see they have extended the play to Monday, since the winds are so bad today. I hope people at least get to finish their 2nd rounds today. Fragile Bird
In fairness, the weather has been pretty brutal if you have been unlucky in your tee time.
Tyrion the Perfect
Can I say I feel really sorry for Tiger. Jesus. What a mess. I too feel sorry for Tiger, but haven't we all learned a valuable lesson from Tiger's fall? Upon making my first billion, I for one resolve to do everything in my power to avoid turning online porn into my person dating service. :drunk: And yeah. I' am currently devising a strategy to record Monday's final round without hearing the results before I get home.
Fragile Bird
I saw Tiger being interviewed last week, talking about how much better things are in his game, being very enthusiastic. But his game is far, far off from what it used to be. I wish him all the best at this point in time, but frankly speaking, I don't think he will ever return to his old form. He's been saying he's on the cusp for a long time. I would love to see a come back, but I don't see it, he's changed his swing too many times. Manhole Eunuchsbane
Can I say I feel really sorry for Tiger. Jesus. What a mess. I don't at all. I mean the guy was amazing, but talk about karma. His golf game seemed to fall apart at the same time his personal life did. At the end of the day, it couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Golf is such a head game, and I suspect thoughts about his stupidity creep into his head unwanted on a regular basis.

Now see, if I got that impression, I would feel bad for him, but I don't think he understands that he is the architect of his own downslide. He fires his swing coaches, his caddies, his sports doctors, etc. I don't get the feeling at all that he blames himself.

(ETA - trying to change everything around him) In fact, sitting here watching the Open, the commentators just had a discussion about Tiger and used that very word, haunted. And wondered if he really wants to come back, he talks about spending more time with his children.

Just heal up mentally and physically for a year or so, then make one last run for glory. I just don't get the sort of mindset this type of guy adopts. I can understand wanting to be the playboy woman chaser, but why marry and start a family if that's who you are? It's just so terribly selfish and self-destructive. I can understand wanting to be the playboy woman chaser, but why marry and start a family if that's who you are? It's just so terribly selfish and self-destructive. It was all part of the original Tiger personna...perfection, which would entail the perfect wife and home and family life. And when that image was shattered, his aura of invincibility was destroyed in his own mind and he has never been the same. But, I do think the swing changes have become insane at this point and everyone in the world, except Tiger, seems to see that this latest effort has regressed him seriously. Fragile Bird
Well, I think they said last year he was named golfer of the year and stood 2nd in the rankings, and this year he's 252nd.

Fragile Bird
Going to be a fantastic final round hoping for an aussie victory. Anyone know what the weather is going to be like for final round?Supposed to be very windy.I'm torn so far. The idea of having an amateur win for the first time since 1930 is marvellous. The idea of seeing someone win the first three majors for the first time since Ben Hogan did it is marvellous. And Jason Day certainly deserves a win as well. :)Sadly, I will have to watch a re-run, since, ironically, I'm a volunteer at a charity golf game all day tomorrow.
