InConJunction, Indianapolis July 6-8

Recommended Posts

Alright, several of us have been mentioning InConJunction in the Mid-west Con thread, so I thought I'd start a new one so that we could step it up a notch and make some real plans.

Here's the deal. GRRM is the guest of honor. He's had a busy and crazy year, and oh, in case anyone forgot, even for a second, ASoIaF is going to be on HBO!!!! DUDE!!!

So I thought us BwBers that will be there should really represent. And celebrate like winter is, indeed, not coming.

Unfortunately, the party floor is sold out. Bummer. But I have a double room on hold for 93 bucks a night. So if anyone wants to make it a BwB room and split the costs with me, that would be great. Even if it's only for a night or two.

Naturally we will have to have lots of BwB hang out sessions and I think we should have a get-together for GRRM, which I can offer my/our room for. Let's do something nice for him, to remind him that the Mid-West can rule (when it tries).

As far as I gathered, here's who will or might come to InConJunction:

For Sure:

Lugalirra (me)

Trebla

Kastor

Ser Bryon

Leela

Narishma Reborn

Maybes:

Vhagor

beniowa

Lady Cheesevilla

EnlightenmentHK

Dracarys

Jaxom1974

So if you think you want to be added to this list, speak up.

Any ideas of things we can do and when we can do them?

I'm in for splitting a room :)

edit: i can probably see about setting up a hangout with George. I've already chatted with Parris about ICJ, she unfortunately won't be attending. :( But I can contact her and get his schedule if it's not already available.

At the very LEAST, we can provide him a KINGSGUARD escort through the party circuit ;)

InConJunction website for those who don't know about it

I'm down for whatever. I suck at planning, but I'll willingly help out with anything going on.

We can try to have some specialty games, or a small party/gathering for George (if he'd want to attend), or any number of things. If Trebla is able to get him to join us for part of our festivities, I think buying him a knight or two would be a great way to say thanks.

Lugalirra,

Do you mean you have two connected rooms, or a room with double beds? Sorry, I can be dense sometimes. Depending on how things turn out, I can throw in some money or buy some booze.

I am totally in for all sorts of get-togethers and everything, but do be sure to leave some time for Con events as well... I know for a fact that I will be participating in the costume Masquerade this year, and so I'd like not to have to choose between that and a BWB event.

As for rooms, I'm already in a group of 8 or so sharing a suite (not on the party floor), so I won't be able to pitch in with anyone else for that (this has been my out-of-town friends' get-together event for the past several years).

I mentioned the costume Masquerade, does anyone have any thoughts on how people would react to somewhat-spoilery ASOIAF costumes? I have a neat one planned, but I suddenly realized that it might be spoilery to some.

Room with two double beds. I think there's one of those pull out couch things. And of course floor space! The suites (with two rooms) were sold out already. I think the majority of those were for the party floor.

Who needs the party floor anyways. No one ever said the Brotherhood without Banners was made up of the cool kids. We are the quintessential outcasts, after all.

I myself am really thinking of a casual time. Looking a George's site, he has a busy schedule this summer. I don't want to see him get all "conned" out ;)

So would you guys be cool with just casually spending some time with him when he has the availability? Maybe having a few drinks and laughs? He is the Guest of Honor as well at this con so that will add to his workload.

There will be plenty for all of us to do at the con. Panels. Gaming. The Masquaerade. I know I'M gonna hit the pool! :D

Yea, I wasn't thinking of anything crazy or what not. We could just see if he wants to get some drinks in the bar or chill, hang out, whatev. Appetizers. Or as Trebla noted, there is a pool. Which might also have frozen girly drinks. Perhaps we can somehow rework the famous battles of Westeros as Marco Polo.

For anyone who may be planning to do some sort of costume, my group of friends has a semi-traditional event we've started that you're welcome to join in on. The hotel this con is in (the Sheraton) is attached to a mall called "The Fashion Mall" around town, and we have made it an annual thing to walk around that mall as a group in costume. We don't disturb anyone, or make a ruckus... the mall staff knows about the convention and all, and so we don't get hassled as long as we don't hassle anyone... we just shop/walk around in costume, and enjoy the looks. :)

I'm still REALLY hoping that my husband (Mayor Cheesevillage) and I can make it, at least for one day. Finances are tight since I quit being a lawyer, but we've hoping to pair the CON with a work trip for his job. If we can attend, I would love to meet y'all (and GRRM!!!!) in a casual/party setting. Drinks always help too:) If we come, I'm sure the Mayor will want to introduce everyone to his favorite drink: Horsefeathers. (Vernor's gingerale with bourbon and liberal dashes of bitters.)

I get the impression that a single room is much the same as a quad room since they are the same price. Is that true or is a quad room bigger?

Hi Jon Targ! I'm really not certain about room sizes and such. I've got to call to verify the reservation, so I'll ask. I actually talked to a guy from InconJunction at Marcon (I'm going to be leading a panel! Woo!) and he said there were still suites availble. I'll call today and find out what the deal is.

I'm a definite.

I booked my flight and rental car through Expedia and will send in my registration for the con as soon as I get to a working printer.

Katie, I'm waiting on your word before I book at the hotel. If there are suites left, count me in as chipping in to pay for one and I'll go ahead and get a single for myself. If there are none left, I may get a quad if that's any bigger and use it for any party. Let me know. :)

BWB event coming UP!!! Can't wait now! :grouphug::cheers:

Jon Targ, sorry I didn't get back to you before. The summer quarter just started and I am already going crazy.

So. I called the hotel. They said no suites left. I have emailed the guy Rob Pyatt to verify that this is the case, since he said before that some were still available. I am assuming, however, that the answer is no.

I asked about reserving a quad but the lady told me there is no such thing. Apparently they have double rooms and they are not charging us for additional people, which is why it says triple and quad. However, I am asking Rob about that also, because every time I have called the hotel no one knows what the hell they are talking about. I still have your number in my phone so I will call you (and post) if I here something promising.

I have double reserved (two double beds with floor space). So far I think Trebla is the only one to verify that he is splitting it with me, so there is still room.

Oh, and I am leading the panel on 'Ancient Scifi and Fantasy?' Saturday at 11 or noon I can't remember. Prime con time. Rob gave me a slot later in the day but I had to refuse because it was scheduled during George's reading!! Anyways, here's the description:

"Was there sci-fi and fantasy in the ancient world? Join a discussion of the similarities and differences between ancient mythology and contemporary SF/Fantasy. What does one offer that the other does not? How has Joseph Campbell's interpretation of mythology shaped the SF/F genre and is his interpretation accurate? How has the SF/F genre followed in the human tradition of story telling and how has it improved upon it?"

I'm even going to have some pictures of Greek pottery that show some 'robots' and bring up Lucian's latin story about the guy going to the moon. It'll be sweet. I hope you all come!
