  1. Sorry but (to all) about the Rickon plot : it may (or may not) be a flaw. But even if it is a problem I think it is an acceptable one , as no show is perfect. There are other examples that are completely different, such as the wigh hunt, which are unacceptable in my opinion. I thin to give credit when is due (FoF 2 was exceptional in my opnion) and criticizing the major flaws.. However to say that " I think that GOT is possibly the stupidest piece of television " is so out of proportion that you start to not even take in consideration. Look I am very vocal about my concerns but please let's not make unnecessary exaggerations...
  2. Yep.. but look what happened with the number of viewers when the storytelling dropped and the show's logic went downhill (after season 3 when the flashfoewards began: In millions: S1=15.69; S2=15.50; S3=17.84; S4=13.40; S5=10.94; S6=10.08 Still big numbers at the end, but to decrease from 17 million to 10 when it should have increased is a proof of how bad storytelling can affect an audience... source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_(TV_series)
  3. Sorry but I think that people are not taking in consideration something. We ALL like the show. It is obvious to me that people will have a higher trend to point the finger to what was bad than to the good (as we assume that it must be good). To watch a episode that I like does not surprise me.. because it is what I expect. Sometimes I will be surprised by how much better the show was against my expectations (i.e. spoils of war episode, last season's the door, BoB or the season finale). But to see something worst, (and sometimes much worse than what we expected) then people are vocal about it... So the perception is that most people view the show in a negative way, when I don't think it is the case.
  4. I don't see the same population that you see. We have examples even here, but I guess we have to agree to disagree based on our samples until a scientific study is done ,
  5. LOST had a bigger average audience in the first season than GoT in the current season. And the internet was not what is today them...
  6. Clash of Titans 300 Alien franchise Lord of the rings Transformers Mummy-Scorpion King tec. (for their time).. In term of battles, the Battle of the beginning of gladiator was impressive... But my point is, if I want CGI, visuals and stuff I will go to Dysneyworld and Universal... not watch a movie... added: I think my previous post explain better why I think CGI and Visuals are not the point.
  7. I think you are missing the big picture and the trend that is happening with show business. The reason that GoT made all its sucess is not CGI, explosions and Dragons. But exactly what you are saying that appeases "book fanatics". Follow me for a minute. Because a fan base (book readers or not) that understand what GoT is about, and because these fans are very vocal, buy merchandise, and create blogs like that, that a fanbase and a TREND.was created. .. the word of mouth spreads and yes, than you attract the more numerous YEAH-TITS-DRAGONS-EXPLOSIONS-VIOLENCE-YEAH! This is done gradually. We have seen the quality of the storytelling decrease season after season. The people that understand the show is already too invested to abandon it and now you can attract more fans just by giving what the "people" want. In other words, You put a lot of effort and detail in an awesome show (first seasons) , than you become lazy, because once it is becoming a pop culture phenom you just feed the same BS that is in Transformers, Scorpion King or any cash cow movie. This is not new. It is what happened with LOST, Homeland, Dexter and many others. Playing to what YOU call fanbase, (what I call fan base, you call "book fanatics" even when many haven;t read the books), will not have a big impact in the current show.. you can basically feed any crap right now that will have audience. HOWEVER IT WILL SEVERELY AFFECT ANY SEQUELS OR SUCCESSORS... You can be sure. Can you image what a failure it would be to make a sequel of LOST now? after being revealed that was a intellectual con since the beginning? added: For people that missed the first post. My take is that what made GoT a success was it was storytelling, impeccable detail, unpredictability, politics and intrigue, attention to the mythology of the show, and complex characters (not total good or evil). The importance of that "package" was gradually being replaced to the same receipt that has been used in regular action movies).
  8. I have been hearing this over and over again, and if D&D are intending to do "fan service" I think they are failing miserably because what captures the fans is logic, political game, good dialogues.. This is well reflected in the scores that we see here. Spoils of War, was the best of the Season, while Eastwatch and Beyound the wall received poor scores. other than Cleganebowl, which became a favorite, I think the best service to the fans would be to have attention for details, coherence, realism, politics and complex characters. Tyrion was perhaps the favorite character from the fans... at least was the character that every fan liked (differently than Jon and Danerys who has their "haters"). Look what they did with him his complexity was deconstructed every season bacame more and more simple.. is this fan service?
  9. Just adding a little about the conversation. This finale was very good i.m.o when we take it the episode in isolation. The problem that I can't ignore, is that all things that set this episode were examples of the worst stuff that the show ever produced. The Dragon Pit scene with the wigh was great, but then I remember that the whole idea (to capture the wigh) was offensively stupid... The Arya-Sansa-Bran-LF scene was great! but then I remember that the dialogues and the forced drama between arya and sansa in the preceding episodes were terrible. The Dragon scene at Eastwatch was great, but then we realized that if wasn't for a stupid wigh hunt, the chains-from nowhere, which by the way were attached to the dragon by wighs that can't swim , the NK wouldn't have a Dragon. Summary: the stupid wigh hunt basic allowed the NK to cross the wall so if I was watching the season backwards, I would have given an 8 or 9. But because I wasn't I gave I think a 5 or a 4 (don't remember but was in that range). another thing, is I have the feeling that they did not need 80 minutes to tell the story of this episode. The extra minutes would have be much more useful in previous episodes where the storytelling was severely compromised by rushing...
  10. According to the polls the "Spoils of War" was by far the best episode of this season. Including the Season finale. The worst episode was Beyond the wall. Because both have battle with Dragons , I think our sample indicates that: Plot+Writing+Acting > CGI+Battles+Action
  11. by the way where is the predictions for this episode thread I wanted to check something was it deleted?
  12. The thing is ... the last episodes were so bad.... the plots that lead to that resulted in a mediocre season finale. The biggest problem is that everything that set this episode (the wigh hunt and the forced area/sansa drama) was just BS... so when you watch your reaction is kind of meh., kudos to: Jaime leaving Cersei....finnaly they did in a way that did not look forced to me; the scene between Cersei and Tyrion: while plot wise was so so the acting was fantastic.... 4 out of 10
  13. Thats how I feel and matches something that I think is happening. The audience is changing as a reflection of the changing of the show. The real base that cared about GoT because all the reasons that it made this series special and different are getting more and more disappointed and less interested. On the other hand the show captured the attention of another cohort that are excited about anything that explodes, action scenes, CGI and stuff. I think the scores that we see here (numbers from 1-3 basically similar to 8-10) reflects that change.
