  1. I think you could argue that Bran 'sacrificed' his ability to walk? I mean he didn't sacrifice it himself but he lost it and then gained greenseeing powers so it kind of fits.
  2. It's funny until an unrelated conversation gets bombarded with Jon the Evil copypasta.
  3. The Targaryens are easily one of the worst families in Westeros when it comes to doing despicable things. Rhaegar abducted a young woman and started a war which caused thousands of deaths. Aerys got off on burning people alive. Daenerys has killed both her brother and husband and now seeks to bring hordes of savages and heathens across the Narrow Sea to torment the people of Westeros.
  4. Supposedly Jaqen is there looking for the book 'The Death of Dragons', but this isn't really as strong of a link to fire compared to the other prologue.
  5. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Jaqen was supposed to have a Lorathi accent rather than a Braavosi. Maybe Arya just thinks all free city accents sound similar?
  6. There was a theory that Jaqen was Syrio. I am not really convinced. It was based on Arya thinking his voice sounded similar to Syrio's. That would explain how Jaqen knows about Arya but it would ruin the tragedy of Syrio's death.
  7. It's ridiculous and the double standards are so infuriating. ICC is fine as long as it's not US or Israel being held to account. Rules for thee and not for me etc. I hope hell (if it exists) has a special place reserved for unrepentant hypocrites.
  8. Then why did you bring this up? Which it clearly is going by the text. No other religions in the present time are mentioned to be burning down symbols of other religions. Even the Dothraki just steal them. That's a silly comparison because there are multiple instances of R'hlorr followers engaging in iconoclasm and only one example of that. Unless, of course, the Braavosi authorities clamped down on that sort of thing. Obviously this man is completely onboard with religious tolerance then and totally won't try something when he's in a position of power to do so. I think my theory that R'hlorrism is less tolerant than other religions is a tad better than your theory that it is just as tolerant, given my theory actually lines up with the text. But I don't see a point in discussing much further given you just ignore or handwave away what is written in the actual books. So I will bid farewell.
  9. How many instances of followers of the Old Gods or Seven attacking other religions in the way the Red Faith in the present day are mentioned in the main series? Does Septon Chayle want to burn down Winterfell's Godswood? No. Do you think he just came up with this idea on his own then? Or do you think that an extremist religion urged him to do so? We have one Red Priest who does nothing dubious and that's Thoros. Moqorro is onboard with human sacrifice, Benero is onboard with slavery, Melisandre is onboard with all sorts of atrocious things, the ones in Lys are all for iconoclasm along with the rest of them bar Thoros. That's to do with the city, not the religion. Key phrase there being 'so far'.
  10. Well they ransack a sept and burn statues of the Seven, kill those that don't want it destroyed, and burn a weirwood grove, and order wildings to burn Weirwood branches. Those weren't owned by converts, unless you take the line that all the property belonged to Stannis. There were certainly many people who were not happy about the destruction of that Sept and would have liked to continue to pray there. Not to mention the things in Essos they are burning. They are slaves to the temple of R'hlorr, not R'hlorr himself. If they were so pro emancipation they could have freed those slaves. If their devotion to R'hlorr was genuine they should be happy to continue service to him as free men.
  11. This is an odd assertion since they have temple slaves including sex slaves. Then why do they let their followers destroy Septs and why is Melisandre insistent on burning heart trees which are sacred objects for followers of the Old Gods? Edit: obviously the Black Goat is an awful religion but you can't single it out for child sacrifice when Melisandre is all for that too.
  12. Now the feed is saying that they are studying the proposal. Fingers crossed...
  13. That's what the text says. If you want to ignore the text then fine. Contradicted by the text but okay.
  14. That's true but Arya's only been there for a couple of months/just under a year(?), and there is a theory she was being trained to gather intel rather than as an assassin.
  15. Surely FM training would include some sort of 'how to escape' aspect though? I guess it depends on whether he deliberately put himself in that position or not. There was a theory he was going to the wall to kill someone there but I'm not sure whether I'm convinced. There's not a lot of information to go on either way.
  16. But then why was he in the cells in the first place? I don't think the average Faceless Man just gets caught doing something. And If 'Jaqen' wasn't on a mission then, he certainly is on one now at the citadel...
  17. On the one hand, I feel like a master assassin should be able to escape that sort of situation via lockpicking etc. It would be kind of strange if Jaqen had no way out and was totally banking on Arya saving him given he sort of put himself in that situation in the first place and had a mission to complete (although to be fair things did sort of go off the rails after Ned died). On the other hand, the fire was moving quickly, and Jaqen seems serious about repaying Arya for saving his life. What do you think?
  18. I've just given you two quotes which show that more R'hlorr followers than Stannis's lot are engaging in iconoclasm. Again: Textbook example of iconoclasm, trying to burn down other people's religious objects. Furthermore, the comment Salladhor makes to Davos: Is specifically in relation to a conversation between him and Davos where they are discussing the burning of the Seven, hence it alludes to more iconoclasm. So not only do we have Melisandre burning statues of the Seven and Weirwoods, we have R'hlorr followers in Qohor trying to burn down the patron god of the city and red priests in Lys burning all sorts. Clearly, iconoclasm is standard practice for the Red Faith, or at least not limited to Melisandre as you appear to be suggesting. It is widespread enough that it happens in multiple locations with varying levels of frequency.
  19. Yes, nothing is fool proof. I also try to stay away from long grass. Agree.
  20. Not when it's people or items of cultural significance. The burning of the Seven was not presented as a good thing at all. It's iconoclasm and that quickly gets out of control.
  21. Firstly, I never said just people, I said 'things', I am talking about property as well, of which burning things very much appears the dominant position. Besides all the things that Melisandre is up to, there is more. Per Salladhor Saan: And they're burning things in Qohor too: Melisandre is not some outlier when it comes to burning things. Thoros/Beric are more likely to be an outlier.
  22. Well obviously not at the current time, but there are plenty waiting for her in Volantis. A few nightfires are mentioned aside from the Brotherhood without Banners. That's not really that many, and also they are probably practicing the less violent stand learned from Beric, the mainstream one is very much into burning things they don't agree with. There's no proof R'hlorr or any other deity exists. Magic working is not evidence of that. The magic is fuelled by sacrifice. I'm sure they're good troops but if they were that good then why did Volantis lose its other territories in the first place?
  23. I wouldn't be so sure of that given lots of R'hlorr followers will likely be part of Daenerys' army, and will view her as a messianic figure. Not to say whether Daenerys herself decides to endorse this, but I doubt whether she would be able clamp down on it effectively. Some people seem to assume Daenerys will just magically be able to instill absolute discipline amongst Dothraki and religious fanatics. While I certainly think she would order them not to plunder and so on I think the effectiveness of such an order would be questionable. The only military force we see that doesn't plunder seems to be The Holy Hundred.
