  1. This topic will be probably bringer of unpopular opinions. Daeron II is by far most fan favorite Targaryen kings, along Aegon the Conqueror, Jaehaerys the Conciliator (although Jaehaerys I is pretty controversial for his familiar life) and Aegon V. Jaehaerys I was no doubt a good king, the best for many, including myself, but his familiar life was tragic and troublesome. I think Daeron II was pretty the same. Daeron was born in 153 AC, and married Myriah Martell in probably 168 or 169 AC. A political union, yes, but happy and fit. Daeron and Myriah had four children, all sons (the only king with only male children, along Aegon the Conqueror) Baelor; Aerys I; Rhaegel; Maekar I. How was Daeron II relationship with his sons? I guess that Baelor was his favorite, by far. A good, wise, just and brave man, respected and estimated by all Westeros, and, no doubt, a excellent Hand of the King. His death circumstances is well known. But the others? Aerys was a reclusive, likely sociophobic, and bookish boy. It's very hard that Daeron, although himself was a bookish man, estimated him. For Rhaegel was the same. Sick, timid, and mad. For Daeron II Aerys and Rhaegel was most likely sources of shame, and hidden at the public gaze. Surely these two was growth by Myriah. Finally, Maekar. It's one of my favorite Targs, but his relationship with his father was, I guess, well, a complicated matter. Maekar was the right arm of Baelor, but he was an harsh man. Some fans called him blond Stannis, not without reasons. Yes, it's based on nothing, but I think Daeron didn't tolerated Maekar. Hate is a bad word. It's reasonable think Daeron want punish Maekar for Baelor's death. the execution is impossibile, for the Daeron indole and kinslayer taboo, but forced Maekar to take the black is a likely option. Fortunately for Maekar, the Great Spring Sickness make the question purely academic. Also, the forced enter of Aemon in the Citadel was surely another factor that make the relationship between the king and his youngest son hard and troublesome. And you? What do you think of this? Thank you for the attention.
  2. Mad Targaryen concepts because inbreeding is a giant misinterpretation of TV show. Only two Targaryen kings (Baelor and Aerys II) was true mad. Personally, I think that "Targaryen madness" was caused by dragon dream. In fact before Dance there weren't Targaryen truly mad.
  3. As you maybe can remember, the Only True King in a chapter of ASOS enumered various famous traitors. The only of these people on We don't know anything but name is Grand Maester Hareth. When this man was Grand Maester? The most likely scenario is that was a First Blackfyre Rebellion character (Daemon supporter). His fate is unknown (I think that He was forced to take the black). This open another question; It's a single individual plot or a Citadel plan? the Citadel dislike Bloodraven, certainly, but Daeron the Good was one of most firmly pro Citadel kings? Show me your opinions and hypotesis.
  4. IMHO most probable Renly predecessor was Hoster. In any case, this have no relevance for the story.
  5. For the Vale, Yes, we know. Nestor Royce ruled the Vale in Jon Arryn absence. The LF predecessor only reference is "his ineffective predecessor" I suppose.
  6. If I remember well, Renly in AGOT threat Janos of remove him by the office of Golden Cloak Commander... I have another question; Renly in AGOT is 22 years old, it's reasonable think of he was appointed Master of Laws no more than 2-3 years earlier. Who was Master of Laws before him? Hoster?
  7. House Velaryon is easily the second house of Westeros tie to House Baratheon for prestige, wealth, and power, from Aegon's Conquest to Dance of Dragons. With the Seasnake, Driftmark touch the epitome of his prosperity, but with Civil War... thing changed. In ASOIAF House Velaryon has basically no power. How explain this? The destruction of Spicetown in Battle of Gullet was a very hard blow for Velaryon wealthiness. Corlys, the greatest sailor of Westeros history, former maester of the ships and Hand of the Queen, died at nine-and-seventy in 131, His likely bastard son, Alyn the Oakenfist, succeeded him. Alyn had his father talent for sailing, but not his sharp mind. Alyn was a pure adventurer. As his father, he married a Targaryen, Baela, but unlike to Rhaenys for his father, Baela was a unhappy match. Strangely, we have not any information on Velaryon after the 136 till to Aerys II reign. One century and half. Easily the biggest hole in a important House family tree. There must have a reason for this. Ok, the next part is pure tinfoil. In 137 Corlys the Younger was born, Alyn heir. Corlys is in my mind a disgrace, a drunken man, closest friend of Aegon the Unworthy and his maester of the ships. The route for Velaryon downfall is started. From Daeron II reign, Velaryon remain close to Targaryen, but in pure terms of naval supremacy, they lose power in favor of Redwyne (most likely Arbor Fleet is first of Westeros by Aegon V time, remember that Daeron had must marry Olenna, right?) Velaryon alignment in First Blackfyre Rebellion is unclear, I assume that Lord Velaryon of time (likely Corlys'son) remain neutral. In 220 around Corwyn Velaryon married Rhae Targaryen. He serve as maester of the ships for his brother-in-law, later replaced by Runceford Redwyne. Decade later, Corwyn's grandson, Lucerys, became prince Aerys' friend. With the Targaryen overtrown by Baratheon, the Velaryon lost their last little influence at Red Keep. Your opinion?
  8. Jaime recall of have speak with Jonothor Darry, invoking help for Queen Rhaella, immediately after Qarlton Chested death. But... Darry was not at Trident in that time? I don't explain this discrepancy. I am only confused? Please, I would great pleasure and gratitude for anyone explain me this.
  9. I think that all of you questioned on this, one time at least. GRRM in a SSM, I remember, said there is a long backstory on this, but which? First of all, I suppose peacefully that Pycelle was born in the Westerlands, for semplification sake. Pycelle was born in 216 AC (seventh-eight year of Bloodraven, ehm, Aerys I rule). We don't know if he was highborn or lowborn. There are clues for both hypotesis. Personally, I prefer think that Pycelle was lowborn. Pycelle have devoleped this devotion only when Tywin became Hand or before? What do you think on that?
  10. A one or two chapters when he is warged in Ghost, but till last third/quarter of TWOW Jon remain dead. Personally I think we will see a "Dark Jon" and he will return "good" only between TWOW epilogue and ADOS (meeting with Theon, Stannis likely death versus Others, return of Rickon and Sansa at WF etc)
  11. I will answer in details later. Now I want propose a problem. We don't know anyone Aegon V'Hands, and Egg reigned for a quarter of century, this is strange... I think this is a deliberate choice for cover Summerhall circostance, and personally I guess Dunk was Aegon last Hand.
  12. We must remember of Dunk at start of Egg reign is already in his forties. I consider this unlikely. in ASOIAF only Meryn Trant and maybe Boros Blount are in this age, all other is clearly younger, and Jaime is only 33 when became Lord Commander. Your point on Demon of Darry that might be Aegon III Lord Commander is intriguing, I never think of it. Aemon is mentioned as Lord commander of his cousins Daeron and Baelor, his father Viserys and his wicked brother Aegon, but not of his uncle. And in fact when the Broken King died Aemon is only 21. I suggest a question: Aemon can be his father Hand? I believe not.
  13. Only good show only scenes is Varys Littlefinger confrontations, with outstanding dialogue. Talisa... there is an idiomatic expression in my native language that say"stendiamo un velo pietoso". It's a horrible charachter, and is a XX century woman in a XIV century (around) ambientation, out of the context for ASOIAF and for real Middle Age.
  14. In my headcanon Dunk was appointed the Kingsguard during Maekar reign, (he higly values Dunk, as seen in The Hedge Knight finale) it's implied that when he escorted Aemon and Bloodraven he was already a KG. I personal would a list of Lords Commander of Kingsguard, Jaime in ASOS mentioned "Demon of Darry" and Alyn Connington, the Pale Griffin. For a simple question of logic, these two are most likely collocated between Daeron II and Maekar.
  15. I disagree, Brienne remember a shield with Dunk's emblem that she see at Tarth, it's a strong clue.
  16. for Maegor, I guess that Aegon V send him in exile short after Maegor have his sixteenth nameday. Some years later Maegor have a son, Varys, and a daughter, Serra. in many fanfiction I have see postulated a Maegor Vaella marriage, but personally I consider this unlikely.
  17. Another interesting question is "who married Daella and Rhae (Egg'sisters)?" The general consensus on Daella is that she was forced to marry Lord Tarth (Selwyn grandfather) for cover Dunk pregnancy (Brienne is a confirmed descendant of Dunk). Rhae is another question. We don't know anything on her, except that she have had children. My speculation is that Rhae married Lord Velaryon and she was Lucerys grandmother.
