  1. Actual Sächsisch is a very pleasant dialect. Very calm and friendly sounding. The problem is that the media is usually interviewing dumb people. When dumb people speak Saxonian, it sounds indeed very dumb. But you should try and listen to educated people speak it.
  2. My sparkly brand newish BMW also refuses to acknowledge the existence of daylight savings. Even the weird hyunday, I'm forced to drive right now, at least has a button for switching it on or off. Wtf?
  3. We definitely dropped the ball on energy storage. I'm not sure that pumping it up the mountains is the way to go. Not so many suitable hills at sea level. But there are definitely other methods to do it locally. Some of them ridiculously simple like storing heat in stones. And green H2 for the chemical industry and foundries. Gas was just the cheaper option if you plan to die within the next 30 years anyway.
  4. So yay for paying y'alls gas bill. Warms me from the inside while I stare at my empty oil tank. Luckily the company pays my petrol bills, so I can drive around and the family can take turns on the passenger's seat with seat heating, I guess. Okay that was a bit too dark, I'm all for solidarity and am glad for all the *poor* people getting strong support with their heating bill and keeping their companies running. But it's amazing how strong the gas lobby seems to be. They should have gone to hell decades ago.
  5. This post came right on time for me to push the order button for my Audi (which is btw the cheapest sensible option for me) I would rather have taken the 500€ pay rise though. All things considered, I break even compared with my old salary and have to make do with a smaller car with a shorter range and lower speed. Though I guess getting a shiny new car every 3 years is something? It does pay off if I drive around a lot though. Not sure that's a good thing. Can I go to Italy in an eCar and how long does it take? TLDR; you only need to be jealous if you like shiny things.
  6. It’s nothing new. They play for that for…decades? I don’t think it will ever happen and also think the security council in its current form needs to be abolished anyway.
  7. It was news all over the world. But to be honest, I didn't know that she was involved.
  8. I agree with the fuck the F.D.P. and I am more or less their target audience. I really can't understand how they can have such an iron grip on this government.
  9. Just my personal thoughts on it and why I decided against investment in oil&gas Oil will be a stranded asset sooner or later. Timeframe completely unknown to me. I did some projects with TotalEnergy and know that they do think of the future economic environment and their place in it. And they have the power and means to pivot to different commodities. In the end big oil could probably buy out every startup on the market. The key is finding the oil company that invests in the future and not in the one that is doing more of the same. That may come with less dividend though. Perhaps a state owned, like Total. They may feel more pressure to invest in clean energy than their completely private owned competitors. But then everyone recommended Gasprom and where would I be now if I had listened. It's bad enough that I have a indirect position in Wintershall with their stranded assets in Russia and the Baltic sea. I understand that you are in a stage where you want to conserve your assets and live from their passive income, right? I would really worry where I am with oil& gas in 20 years. The only way that I would invest in oil is via Berkshire. Buffet has tons of oil companies and I would expect him or his predecessor to figure out when to dump them. No dividends for you though.
  10. So if I look strictly at your model then it is clearly the last option. Assuming a benevolent and able government, it is the only one providing goods in equal measures to everyone, regardless on where they have started. It is also the only one that allows for a not self-serving distribution of resources. The first one is only good if you already started with the means of production and a good education as well as economic literacy. By accident it can improve the health of the planet as you call it. E.g it adds value to one economic centre with a lack of bulls at the same time as to the one with a lack of cows. The second one is not feasible long term, it will obviously diminish all existing wealth for no apparent reason. But maybe it could serve as a stop gap to address local imbalances. You might balk at my favouring of option 3 because the assumption of a benevolent and skilled higher Form of organization - here called government. But at the same time we would also have to assume that the successful entrepreneurs are benevolent. Both are not so often monitored in the wild. Personally I don't really like this cow example. It is always defined from the view of someone who is already comparatively well off. From a completely selfish point of view, there is only one path leading to immediate accumulation of wealth. It somewhat ignores the global status (not everyone has two cows and milk) at the begin and the one at the end ( everyone may or may not have a cow and/ or access to milk)
  11. While I do think 2 and 3 can be discussed, I always thought that 1 should be formulated differently. Maybe: Capitalism is where you have two cows but are forced to sell one to feed the other but after that one died next season you find employment at a multinational that owns all the grazing land.
  12. I don't know. At this point I have to assume that they are just trolling. But then...my father has an Ukrainian girlfriend and has lived with her for a few years in central Ukraine. They are so pro Russia that I can't even talk with them anymore. There are people who really believe in the just cause of the poor Russian occupiers.
  13. Ukraine is wielding a lot of soft power right now and they play their hand exceptionally well. They can't afford to show too much deference to "their betters" right now. They must aim to bend them to their will *right now*. Consequences be damned. Nobody can afford to be on the wrong side here and everyone should try to be on their side. If Scholz is willing and able to use this momentum...I'm not so sure though. Instead of saying that he currently doesn't plan a trip to Kyiv, he could have said that he plans to go as soon as it makes sense, which unfortunately is not today or tomorrow because of reasons. And then drive a policy that makes the trip worthwhile. So not 5000 helmets again. I have no doubt that Germany will play a big role in the later reconstruction of Ukraine, and in earlier times that would be our sole role in the war. But now is the time to show where we stand.
  14. Great! Kyiv in the middle of a war is not a tourist attraction. There is no need for a token visit from a president who brings nothing to the table. It's fine if Scholz comes for a visit with a suitcase full of tanks and whatnot. Everything else is useless. While I have full understanding for the glazial speed of the German politics because I know the realities in this country, they shouldn't dare to come empty handed. And especially don't send Steinmeier - not sure why they didn't get the message earlier.
  15. In other interesting news it seems that the share of registered church members is below 50% for the first time in centuries. Hard to believe when you live in Bavaria but I believe in progress nonetheless.
  16. What did you expect? F.D.P. is doing F.D.P. things. If they can't stick the knife into something just to share some clientele interests, they are not happy. Probably Mövenpick worried that there are not enough vaccinated maids or something. What worries me more is that they hade the same share of first time voters than the Greens.
  17. I hear there is renewed talk about reunification of the left (again...). While I agree that this would be a good thing on principle, there is definitely a purge of the more crazy parts of Die Linke needed. Probably better to let their more sane members switch over to SPD and dry out their personal bases, I'm not sure the SPD would survive a reunification at the polls. I'm quite happy to leave those, who want to discuss about identity politics (as opposed to actually doing it) in their own party - or they can join the AfD.
  18. I love daylight saving time. Can't wait for the extra hour of light. The one hour time difference is also not a biggy. Who has ever heard of people complaining about jet lag when they just went to neighbor time zone? Shame about the cows though.
  19. So that's the insane rural community lost for the other parties. What to do now? What is the demographic makeup of the CDU party members anyway?
  20. It's really a funny time where Lauterbach is the most popular minister, pushed into office by popular demand and Playboy's man of the year is Drosden. One could almost think that the majority of people is not insane.
  21. Tracking insider trading is valid. Shouldn't be your only data point of course. If management invests more than they are obliged to, it is a positive sign. If they all drop their stocks than take that as a warning.
  22. Of course they would. They might have to actually solve real crimes. And deal with people who can not be convinced of a revenue sharing model.
