  1. I thought four was pretty enjoyable as well but will not disagree that the first two episodes of season 5 were outstanding.
  2. I saw the first episode and thought it was really solid. There was some political commentary in there which I didn't see coming and which was hilarious Will probably watch the second episode tonight.
  3. Ah I haven't seen that one yet.
  4. The man had issues. Deep-seated issues. I can't remember any scene of the films of his I have seen where rape was played as erotic, but I wouldn't be surprised given how problematic the role of women is in his films. He was a damn good film maker though, especially when there is action cinematography.
  5. I'd prefer Peckinpah. The man really is the artist of violence
  6. Sam Peckinpah as a director of a Wolverine movie would be gruesome XD
  7. But how do you then ensure that you have enough Bacon in your life?
  8. I thought you of all people would understand immediately @Corvinus85 Let's Hear it for the Boy is an evergreen song from recording artist Deniece Williams made for the classic Kevin Bacon extravaganza Footloose... The sketch refers to the exact pronunciation of Deniece
  9. I just needed to mention Deniece Williams in this joint Continuing on from last thread. I have to admit I don't get the disappointment. Season 1 is a tad fuzzy in my recollection, but this season actually felt like a step up for me overall. It was very tastefully handled and you can really see the actors mature in their roles. EDIT: Also very happy to have made another thread title. If there is one thing I miss about the Vikings threads back when the series was good, is that we also had nice, punny titles for the threads
  10. I don't see why "interesting" and "despicable" should be mutually exclusive.
  11. Agreed. Zaheer was by far the most interesting villain in the LoK pantheon. Yes, I agree with this as a general rule. With Korra it's difficult, but that second season was atrocious. I don't remember the specifics of it, but the spirit lore was utter garbage of the Rise of Skywalker type (not only being a terrible product on its own, but also lowering the enjoyment/sense of the original). That being said, there is a lot of promise in it though. I feel like LoK is the writers just regressing to the mean after pretty consistently making the right choices with regards to the promising ideas in the Last Airbender. They made a few bad calls, but with a bit more luck it could have been just as good as ATLA.
  12. Thanks everyone for the recommendations. As my local bookshop has a copy of Tigana on the shelves, I'll think I'll start with that one
  13. I read A Song for Arbonne years ago. I found it intriguing, but never got deeper into GGK at the time. What would everyone recommend from him to get going again?
  14. Ah, what a legend. He's the people's champ in my eyes That does sound more appealing than the Great Houses idea I had to look that up and it's indeed very funny
  15. Well, you all know I was a fan of I shall miss you bake-off ETA: Also, I really loved those ending credits, summing up what everyone was up to after they survived bake-off
  16. Now that has been eliminated I'm definitely rooting for
  17. Apart from the fact that me being able to watch it should be everyone's criterium for judging this whole affair I do think there is a big difference. First, purely on a comparative level, everyone residing in the UK should realize what a great privilige it is to have the BBC as your national broadcaster. I don't watch as much (live-)tv as I used to, but when you compare the BBC's output to French, Belgian and Dutch public broadcasters (and commercial ones as well actually) you would understand that the rest of us can only dream of a station that brings so much accessible quality content to its viewers (the best we have to compete is Arte). Any action that limits the possibilities of this great national gem, like the hostile take-over of one of its big moneymakers, should be frowned upon by any and all interested in the common good. Secondly, I don't really get the dichotomy you create between loyalty to the "show crew" and loyalty to the BBC. The BBC gave this show a shot when everyone else was thinking that a baking show could never amount to anything. They nurtured the format, the attracted a bunch of incredible presenters and they probably had as much creative input in its development as the indepent production company. The people shooting the show, if they weren't working freelance, would more likely than not be in the BBC's employ than not. The show crew and the BBC are pretty much indistinguishable. That's why Mary Berry, Sue Perkins Mel Giedroyc decided to remain while the suits sold this show's soul from underneath them. Gregg doesn't pretend to be 'an actual chef' though. I think that's what bothers @Isis about Nigela. Personally, I'm not really familiar with la Lawson, so I refrain from further comment. EDIT: Okay, one more thing. Gregg Wallace is a national treasure
  18. Hollywood sells out Why am I not surprised? Seriously though, fuck him. Loyalty is not something he's familiar with, it seems. Strange they didn't specify his job. Selasi just works at the City, that's it.
  19. I have no personal experience with them, so I'll take your word for it that's extra disappointing though.
  20. It seems like Mary Berry has dropped the mic and is going to abandon TGBBO as well No definite news on Hollywood, but C4 seems to think they can keep him on board. I count this as a victory against corporate greed.
  21. Interesting episode, although I have to admit I wasn't really focussed on the TV this week. I am sort of stunned though, the comeback kid is gone. I feel like I just saw Houdini drown. I thought No thank you, I'd rather fling crack than selling Twilight books to tweens I have selfrespect you know Yeah, I don't know what happened to him. I think he probably doesn't put the effort in like the others do. Since he works in the City, I can't imagine he has much spare time to practise. I know I won't be tuning in live again. Even if I could watch it that way, I'd just skip the commercials to spite them. You're welcome, recommendations like this is why our community here is so wonderful!
  22. EDIT: Also @Risto I knew I would be able to get you hooked on this Somewhere deep inside me, a highly succesful crack dealer is just waiting to come to the surface
  23. Man, you're hardcore. I started watching like two season ago I never dreamed of going back all the way to the beginning The Brits just have more class or rather, they are better at projecting the semblance of class The first episode of the latest season did have them a bit though, with that little bit in Germany I'd say they just aren't as prevalent as before
  24. What did you guys think of this week? I love the fact that Oh, I so hope they'll be doing this Screw Channel 4, after they cancelled Utopia, they deserve a good ass whiping. I hope the BBC will deliver on it. Is there any news on Paul and Mary's stance?
  25. The point is that I'm only able to watch the BBC Besides, the BBC could have payed more if those Tory bastards hadn't cut its funding so badly. And those greedy producers can still go fuck themselves.
