I read the first couple issues of Hickman’s new sci-fi book Decorum. Kind of confusing at first (similar to his POX), but definitely interesting. Gorgeous art, too.

Looking through the HBO MAX app and I see that there’s a ton of old Criterion titles in the TCM section. Including a bunch that I’ve been meaning to see for years. This looks better than I expected...

I’m catching up on old stuff as well. I’m almost finished with the Gotham Central omnibus. It’s as good as advertised. The comparisons of “The Wire set in Gotham” is pretty apt.

The only thing I’ve watched on there was S1 of The Mandalorian and I had issues with the sound. Volume was way too low. I was using a Fire HD 8. Netflix and Prime work fine on it.

I highly recommend Six Feet Under and Veep from that list as well.

Did you read the final issues? Went out pretty strong. I’m going to miss the hell out of that book. It always went near the top of my monthly titles in reading order.

Just finished the giant treasury editor of Silver Surfer: Black. Gorgeous book. Some of the trippiest art I’ve seen since Sandman: Overture.

I keep getting constantly asked to accept cookies here recently. It’s happened 3 or 4 times in the last couple weeks. Never remember having to do it this much. Using an iPhone with safari.

Finally got around to reading the last issue of Doomsday Clock. I thought it was a pretty satisfying ending. I’m not the biggest DC reader, so I had to look up some of the Flashpoint/New 52 stuff that this book changes, but I liked the Watchmen aspects of it a lot. Gary Frank did some absolutely stunning work in the final issue.

I need to catch up on this. I think I’m still a couple trades behind. Glad to hear it’s still going strong.

So I’m hearing this was pretty good? I really wasn’t planning on buying all the non-Hickman X titles, but I’m already curious...

Yeah, Low is still going. That one and Seven To Eternity both seem go on a hiatus too often though. And both are actually in the home stretch of being finished. There’s also Deadly Class, which is about his only book that consistently comes out on time, and then Death or Glory. I read the first arc of that one, but it didn’t really grab me.

The final issue of Black Science (#43) was excellent. Fitting “ending” for that book. Pretty bleak overall, but that shouldn’t surprise anyone familiar with some of Remender’s other indie stuff like Fear Agent. Definitely a book that will benefit from multiple re-reads, although it does get much less confusing the deeper into the story it gets. Grant McKay is one of the better comic characters in recent years, imo. The art was always amazing throughout the series, too. I can’t believe this started way back in 2013. Doesn’t feel like it’s been that long. Really enjoyed it though, and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that likes heady sci-fi type stuff.

That’s a lot of books... I’ll probably just stick with Hickman’s main X-men, and New Mutants at first. Probably wait and see on the others.

Thinking about reading some of Hickman’s other Marvel stuff since I’m liking his X-Men so much (only other thing by him I’ve read is East of West), but a lot of the trades seem to be hard to find. Even on Amazon and Instocktrades, etc. Question for those that read his Avengers/New Avengers runs, can I read the Infinity trade (that has the issues of those books that coincided with the event) without reading the first few volumes of each title? Or would I be totally lost? Have heard conflicting things... I really wish they would make it easy and just re-print his Avengers and Fantastic Four omnibus’ but that doesn’t seem likely anytime soon. *and no I don’t read any comics digitally.

Sticking with Brian K Vaughan, Y: The Last Man is also really good. She’d probably be into The Wicked + The Divine by Kieron Gillen since she loved Saga. It’s on the final issue too, so she will be able to read the entire story.
