US Politics. Trump Crossing the Dnieper. Alea Iacta Est.

So one niggling thing about the whole Ukraine development is trump repeatedly describing his call with Zelensky as "perfect". Like I get that he has an odd way of mangling idiom, and otherwise tortures the english language in the the most cringeworthy ways. But, "perfect," in the context of a phone call? It just doesn't fit....unless.... All I can imagine is a team of legal linguists painstakingly coaching trump on how exactly to conduct his talk with Zelensky: "No mr president, you can't say it like that" "I'm sorry sir, that's illegal too" "Uhhh, no. Just.....no" Until finally he gets it! The wording that is just weaselly enough to buy what they all figured would be an acceptable amount of deniability for Barr and McConnell and Trump's base if not the entire GOP establishment to cover his ass if anybody ever found out. "Yes Mr President, that's perfect. Say it just like that" And he did! He said it perfect! Just like those annoying, pencil-necked, nerds told him to say it! Perfect! The phone call was "perfect"!

Cats: Threading their way into our lives.

As a kid i read a book about a prim gentleman housecat who, after attending to his morning duties, would settle in a particular sunny windowsill to "read the news". Don't remember the name of the book, though it may have been "Cat", but i still assume this disposition and intent about any cat gazing at the outside from a secure perch.

My sister is "kind of a big deal" in the Pioneer Valley organic farming community, and periodically gives my Dad seeds or starts of this and that. Dad, proud of his daughter, will plant whatever she gives him in apparently random, often unseemly, or otherwise inappropriate (due to light or soil requirement) places. So a few years ago he placed a tomato start along his front walk and by the end of summer he had an 8' cherry tomato tree rising up between his rhododendrons and the juniper hedge. Dad loved it, and since then has nursed the volunteer sprouts that come up each year. I just shake my head disapprovingly, and tsk tsk about his "front yard vegetable garden".

Life will find a way "BOSTON (WHDH) - Two green baby anacondas were recently born in an all-female exhibit at the New England Aquarium in Boston, making them “biological celebrities” due to the fact that they were created without fertilization from a male, officials said. The two-foot-long babies are a product of the unusual form of asexual reproduction called parthenogenesis or “virgin birth” in Greek, according to the aquarium."

    Avengers Endgame- SPOILERS II

Thats a big unanswered question. I think all of the snap victims are either legit dead, or, best case, transported to the soul realm in some sort of unconscious limbo. Peter Parker describes a near instant dying/reawakening experience. I think if Strange were "alive" in any sense that allowed him to view happenings during the 5 year span, he would also have been able to interact with our heroes during that time through astral projection from his past or future self. Fair, therefore, to assume actual death during the gap.

    Avengers Endgame- SPOILERS II

Well, to be fair, Strange wouldn't be able to guide anyone through successful scenarios that he didn't survive.

    Avengers Endgame- SPOILERS II

So, one thing that bugged me is the way that Hawkeye and Widow seemingly nerfed the sacrifice requirement for the soul stone. In IW it seemed that the one seeking the stone must directly sacrifice that which they love in order to gain possession. Arguments about the validity of Thanos’ love for Gamora aside, that’s how it played out in IW: Thanos wanted the stone, Thanos must give Gamora’s life for the stone. In EG, though, Hawkeye gets the stone through BW’s suicidal gesture, despite his every effort to prevent that act. Now, I’ve gone back and reviewed the soul stone scene in IW, and EG does follow the explicit wording that Red Skull uses to explain the ritual. “The Stone demands a sacrifce. You must lose that which you love”. And while Hawkeye did suffer the loss of that which he loves, he, personally, made no sacrifice, and even would have prevented it if he could. And I can’t help but think that finding someone willing to die for you is a much lower bar that having to personally kill someone you love so that you might possess an infinity stone.

MCUniverse - Nick hath no Fury like an MRA troll

Uhh..quite possibly? I don't remember. I do think the whole magic=science explanation seemed very hand-wavy at the time, but, comic books! Though Vision's existence alone is clear proof that the power of the stones is compatible with physical sciences. Not to mention all the other examples of hard and computer science interference and manipulation of the power of the stones throughout the MCU.

MCUniverse - Nick hath no Fury like an MRA troll

I'm struggling to imagine an exciting superhero movie plot based on this, but, as we learned in Thor 2, what we call magic is really just science. So, couldn't Shuri, Stark, Banner, Vision etc put their collective expertises together and science up a new gauntlet?
