Okay! I'm back!
Thank you for this! Now I won't have to go around bookmarking hundreds of pages...
Any Cersei re-reads? She's a challenging character, if the scholars of the re-read forum were to do a re-read, I'm sure it'd be one to drool over.
You are very welcome! I found some Cersei stuff but I didn't see a proper re-read started. If anyone can find any let me know.
If there isn't one, there probably should be.
I'll add to this:
AGoT Reread: Direwolves, Dragons [eggs], Momont’s Raven, and Cats, Oh My! Pets or Providence?
Added! Thanks for the suggestion Evita!
I also did a Lancel reread (kind off reread at a least) :
Got it - I've added it to the list.
Great idea to list them all on one page! :)
One small (really really tiny) thing, though:
You got a few typo's here :)
Thanks and thank you for pointing out the typos. They're fixed now.
What an excellent idea, MOIAF!
This resource collecting all the rereads on the board will hopefully make it much easier to locate each for reference and linking. And I'd like to thank you for including The Will to Change: Rereading Sandor and the Rereading Sansa section of From Pawn to Player, it's much appreciated.
You are very welcome! That was the idea behind it. I got tires of having to search through pages to find old re-reads, even the ones I'd started. It should also (hopefully) make it easier for participates for new re-reads.
Thanks all for your feedback!

they will be having something up in their sleeve like spiders and other things sure
but can anyone deny anymore that dragons cant kill them ...there are people who argue about this ..
Well, especially given that you need dragonfire to make Valyrian Steel, I think there is a good chance dragon fire can kill them.
-
Finally.. Atleast one person who noticed this..
Dany as a badass is fine.
But Dany suddenly turning into Mad Queen and killing innocents is stupid.
Why does no one see this or even bother that the character (with good morals) was butchered in minutes?
No you aren't the only one: http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/topic/128675-poll-how-would-you-rate-episode-505/?p=6979229
We are all very upset.
-
Why would a random foreign mercenary be the leader of a Meereenese slaver terrorist group?
He's not.
I would say that if there is indeed a Harpy it would be the prostitute that was present at both the attacks against Dany's people. She was directly responsible to White Rat's murder and she directed the Unsullied into the ambush. I'm certain that she is playing a role in the terrorist organization, that they have decided to showcase her says to me that it's an important role.
ETA: He can be in cahoots with the SoH but he's not one of the leaders.
-
She's the Harpy--the mastermind behind the unrest in Meereen.
I think that the woman pretending to be a prostitute will turn out to be the Harpy. She's been involved in two very gruesome attacks against Dany's people.
-
Dany has been mad since the beginning.
Ah, no she has not. We are in her head, we know she's not mad.
The show like the books is clearly going for Cersei, the mad queen.
-
Yeah, it was a mess. It's especially dissapointing because I feel Meereen has been one of the high points of the season until this episode.
I know, I had also been very pleased with Meereen this season. I hope they explain Dany's decision in the next episode.
Perhaps will get her talk with Daario about not wanting to be a butcher queen.
-
I did the same thing. I even went back and watched the scene a second time. If we were going to get a glimpse at Dany "the mad queen" that was the scene to do it. As much as I hated that scene (especially after her talk with Barristan a couple episodes ago), at least they didn't go that route.
Dany isn't mad, and she isn't going to be. I can't imagine GRRM taking one of his main characters that way.
Agree.
The more I think about it the more I really don't like either of Dany's scenes this episode. Emilia's acting was fine, even good at times but the content....
It was just so disjointed, it made it look like Dany going from one train of through to the next in a manner of hours, not very thoughtful.
-
iam thinking that whore is a replacement of wineseller and his daughters
I didn't consider that. I thought she might end up being the Harpy.
-
I am surprised that the slaves are with the Harpy and not Myhsa. Was that the same in the books?
No. But it seems like the one with the Harpy is that particular prostitute who might turn out not to be a real prostitute at all.
-
It would be different in Westeros though. She wouldn't be trying to change a thousands of years old culture.
You know what the irony truly is? More than half the people in Meereen don't belong in Meereen, they were dragged there by slavers.
-
Have you been watching Sophie Turner this season? She seems like she's on Valium or something. Emilia is miles ahead of her as an actress.
I thought Emilia did a great job, especially he scene with Drogon. Very well acted. Daario has been excellent as well.
-
I liked the Meereen story in Episode 501, but this week felt like they were doing the complete opposite of what GRRM wrote. A trial for an ex-slaver (instead of question sharply) and a swift execution in front of the entire city for a former slave? I tilted my head to one side and just went "wut...?"
I did love the Drogon/Dany stuff. I'll never say no to my Queen and her baby.
One more thing to add to why I'm not feeling this episode quite as much: can I have Jorah back now please?
I think the questioning sharply will come later when things begin to deteriorate. Right now Dany is still in the early stages of ruling in Meereen and trying to do the right thing.
I agree with Nic, I think that Dany did the right thing. Not only did the slave disobeyed a direct order he undermined her authority. He gave her no choice.
-
Note how Cersei and Dany both end their time in AFFC/ADWD. Come back and tell me that they are not intertwined more significantly. Cersei is off her rocker, Dany fears going mad that is true but both are making a mess of power and end up in the dirt.
Do you need people to spell out the episode for you rather than using your own critical abilities?
I don't care about Dany enough to hate her, much like Missendei, I'm quite apathetic about them.
I'm all for discussion, but if you are going to be rude, I will be rude to you.
It's not rude to state facts, you do realize that, right?
If you are inferring things from a scene that no one else has inferred and the creators of scene did not infer then you should wonder why have you come up with such a nonsensical comparison. You obviously do care a great deal about Dany's character as you seem to want to discuss her quite often. Your obvious dislike for the character shows when you come up with ridiculous comparisons.
It's also clear that the comparison between Cersei and Dany is that one is going mad (Cersei) and the other one is not (Dany) and that's the irony.
Further, the leadership portion of Dany's ADWD arc the parallel lies with Jon not Cersei. I would recommend you read the excelled series of thread entitle Learning to Lead.
-
There is a gargantuan difference between not going well, and comparing her to Joffrey.
Jon struggles to rule during ADWD too, but somehow I doubt you'll jump to comparing him to Joffrey. His people tried to kill him too. So again the only difference is swinging the sword himself? That's just stupid.
Pretty much thins.
Throughout ADWD Dany and Jon's leadership positions are being compared and contrasted. It so happens that they make many of the same mistakes. To compare the scene with Joffrey is asinine. D&D when discussing the episode talked about the difficulty of ruleship in comparison to conquering. And how Dany had to learn that she could not please everyone. Nowhere was a comparison to Joffrey intended. That's just hyperbole.
If that is the basic moral compass of the series, we would never get the POV of the other side. This is rather narrow-minded view of how things work in ASOIAF. What Ned was saying shouldn't be taking as gospel.
It is not like Joffrey scene and comparison could not be worse. If you compared to the Robb and Karstark, that one I could understand, but you are focusing on the make up here, instead of interior side of this. You are basically missing the forest for the tree. This is not about whether Dany did it on her own or she didn't, it is about punishing disobedience which is far more important and far greater parallel with the "Fetch me a block" than it is with the travesty of justice. This wasn't Dany's failing, even though she is not the most popular person now in Meereen. Thing is that she actually did the right thing. But, she was in situation where the right thing might not be the best thing to do.
Agree completely with this.
Like I said, I'm not saying she is killing prostitutes and cutting cats open. But there is a definite comparison to be made between Joffrey's early failures and this scene showing Dany's early failures. I'm not comparing personalities but the success of their rulership. I could easily say Lannister and not Joffrey but its basically the same thing. They took two quick examples of the early hatred of the Lannister regime in series one and two to draw comparisons. Therefore in turn comparing what we are shown as 'good ruling', Ned Stark. The reasons why they get in to the messes they do are very different, the effect is the same. These are just quick visual callbacks. Elio said in a recent video that Dany in A Dance with Dragons was meant to parallel with Cersei but that GRRM didn't think it worked out. Comparing her to the Lannister rule in general could be a quick way for D&D to align the two.
Ned is as close as you get, he is the 'good man that died for it'. Its by him we judge others.
It is like the Joffrey scene, you just don't like the inference you think it makes on Dany. I do agree that there is a comparison also to be made with Robb and Karstark, he lost a lot of his men for what he did but it was only the Karstarks that he actually lost (and even then in the books Alys is still loyal because of Ned's morality and justice). His forces were more than House Karstark. Robb's big mistake was breaking his word
As usual you have missed the point.
The comparison with Cersei is the absolute irony that Cersei is more like Dany's father than Dany herself. That Cersei will turn out to be the Mad Queen not Dany, that's where the comparison lies.
Please go watch the Inside the Episode bit, D&D make no such comparisons to Joffrey. That's purely on you and your absurd hatred of Dany.

Okay, good, I thought I might be going crazy, I thought Meereen was the best part, and some of the Wall. I got a glimpse for the first time in a long time of Season 1 Dany.
Meereen has been great so far. Which I'm genuine surprised but very pleased. Last season it dragged but they are picking up quite nicely. So far it's been my favorite storyline.
-
This was the best episode of GoT in quite some time. Sure, not as flashy as some other more recent episodes, but it was just well crafted throughout.
I'm with you, I really enjoyed the episode.

No idea what's going on with notifications, I'm afraid. It's always been a rather dodgy feature, and I can't find where the problem lies.
I also noticed that the number of visits to my page has stayed the same ever since the notifications started malfunctioning. I don't care about the page visits but it might help you find where the problem lies.
-
Is there any news about the notif. problem? Just checking :(
This please.
You know what I noticed. If I'm following a topic I do get a notification but if I'm quoted I do not. :(
-
I posted this a couple of weeks ago, I'm having the same problem.I posted on this in a relevant thread, but got no reply. I'm not getting notified when I'm quoted or for thread subscriptions. Who helps with that?
How can this be fixed?
-
I don't get notices anymore when someone quotes me. I think it's been going on for a few weeks now, since that week where the site kept on crashing.
I tried resetting my setting but it didn't work.

I was wondering if something could be done about the mobile pop-ups. Whenever I'm on my phone or ipad i get a bar at the bottom of the page. I can close it but the minute I go to another page it pops right back up, this makes it difficult an annoying to navigate from page to page through the forum. Thank you!
-
I gave it an 8 as well. It was a good episode overall although I was underwhelmed by the ending. I was certain it would end with magic of sorts. Oh well...

Apparently the changes I made a couple of months ago just disappeared. I've added them but I'm not keen on this new site layout.
