I think he was focusing on families with POV characters, which is why he left off the Tyrells and the Arryns. Greyjoys have the 2nd most number of POV characters, all of whom are still alive, but they don't have as many as some of the smaller families.

Yeah but Cat is a Tully too.

Why would he be Jon Waters? He's never been to KL in his life. He was born in Dorne and brought up in the North so Snow is perfectly fine if he's not legitimate.

Anyway, I hope that we get some fistpump moments for Theon in the next book. He's sorely in need of it. The scenario of the OP is a little cartoonish as others have noted.

Because Rhaegar is his father and he's from the Crownlands, hence the name of his father's region. But he can keep Snow if he wants, just correcting anyone calling him Jon Targaryen.

Bastards take their name from the region they grow up in, not the region their father was born in. Hence Mya Stone.

You can "correct" people saying Jon Targaryen all you want. Enjoy fighting that losing battle.

By your logic every Robert's bastard should be Waters, too. Surname comes after region a bastard is born in.

Wrong. The child take the name of the place of his birth. So if Jon Stark Targaryen was a bastard he would be Jon Sand.

From the wiki:

As the surname is applied depending on the region where the bastard is raised, bastards who are half-siblings may have different surnames. For example, Robert Baratheon's eldest bastard, born in the Vale, is called Mya Stone while his bastard from the Stormlands is called Edric Storm.
