Veltigar
So, recently we saw the release of the Stark family tree. One of the things that were discussed IIRC was the possibility of some Starks supporting the Black Dragon, which would of course be the cause of strive within the family. This strive was then resolved by marrying the next Lord Stark to the daughter of Rodrik "the Wandering Wolf" Stark. Now, we know Rodrik fought with the Second Sons (ADWD). And we also know that Bittersteel rode with them before founding the GC. Could the Wandering Wolf have found himself on the wrong side of the BF Rebellion? Or am I seeing things? (which is totally possible, the idea only came up this morning, but the discussion was several weeks ago :D )
Lord Varys
Rodrik Stark's daughter was Rickard's mother. He would not have been involved in the First Blackfyre Rebellion (he's not old enough). My guess is that Edric and Serena Stark may have been Blackfyre loyalists, because they wanted to usurp Winterfell. There has to be an explanation why the hell Edric - and/or his sons were passed over.
The hairy bear
Your suggestion is contradicted by GRRMs comments in a SSM where he said that Beron Stark was "thirty-something" upon his death, some time around 215. That means his son Rodrik couldn't get involved in the Blackfyre Rebellion (196). In fact, the fact that Winterfell will be ruled by women during D&E's visit indicates that none of Beron's sons will have reached manhood by then. And Rodrik is probably one of the younger sons, since his daughter married a grandson of one of his brothers. That would place Rodrik's birth in the 210's. TheCrannogDweller
And Rodrik is probably one of the younger sons, since his daughter married a grandson of one of his brothers. That would place Rodrik's birth in the 210's. Another possible reason for the age disparity is that he may have just married later in life, after his wandering years were done.
