I just noticed this while recurring joke, it's nothing special but made me laugh:

Season 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_Mvb0UzhG8

Arya- "Hot Pie, tell Gendry what makes a fight into a battle "

Hot Pie- "It's uhh.. when they've got armor on"

Gendry- "And who told you that?"

"A knight"

"and how'd you know he was a knight?"

"..He had armor on"

Season 4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sHwU0cEzxo (1:00)

Hot Pie- "You're a knight?

Brienne- "...No..."

Hot Pie- "Oh.. it's just--people with armor is usually knights"

Oh Hot Pie.. will you ever learn? :dunce:

Actually it was more among the lines of

Arya: Shut up liar you have never seen a battle

Hot Pie: yes I have it was a sword fight and both guys were wearing armor

Gendry: any idiot can buy and wear armor, that does not mean it was a battle

It was in reference to being a Knighr. Hot Pie said they were knights because they had armor.

You should go rewatch it

I did plenty of times and it was dealing with Knights battling. HP basically mistook two drunks in armor fighting as two Knights in a battle. They were Knights because they had armor.

The conversation did involve what is a battle but the last point is that anyone can buy armor and it does not mean they are knights. Also that it was not battle.

Yes thats what I have been saying lol........

Gendry explained how any moron can go and buy armor, so two people fighting in armor doesnt make them real knights nor does it mean it was a battle, but yes correct

Good catch. And it also fits with the whole "what does it mean to be a knight?" theme, which they haven't otherwise explored as much on the show as it is explored in the books.

Brienne is technically not a knight, yet she was part of a Kingsguard, and she is more of a 'true knight' than anyone else. Sandor is not a knight, he despises knights and refused to be knighted, yet he was part of a Kingsguard, and anyone who sees him would think he's a knight since he has every other characteristic of a knight - except for the ceremony of being knighted in the Faith of the Seven etc. Dunk was likely not a knight, just a guy with a horse, sword and armor who had been a squire and gotten some poor training from an old knight, but no one could tell the difference, everyone believed he was a knight, and he was a 'true knight' in many ways and ended up as LC of the Kingsguard.

As a matter of fact, Hot Pie kind of has a point. Imagine if someone tried to explain it to him what a knight is:

Hot Pie: They had armor and they fought. That's how I knew they were knights.

X: Any fool can buy an armor. Do you know what a knight is?

Hot Pie: Well, it's a man who wears armor and sword and fights.

X: No, a knight is someone who first gets a lot of training...

Hot Pie: To do what?

X: To fight, of course.

Hot Pie: That's what I said.

X: And then he is knighted, by another knight. He kneels and the knight taps him on a shoulder with his sword and says: "Arise, Ser..." Only a knight can make a knight. Sometimes he can also be annointed by seven oils by a septon.

Hot Pie: Why do they do all that?

X: Well, that's how it's done. That's how you become a knight.

Hot Pie: And if you're a knight, you wear an armor?

X: Well, yes.

Hot Pie: And what do you do?

X: Well... you fight, you protect the week, women and children, maybe you even protect the King, you fight in tournaments when it's not war, you fight in duels, in battles...

Hot Pie: So, if you're a knight, you wear armor and you fight?

X: Yes.

Hot Pie: That's what I said.

X: ...........
