AncalagonTheBlack
A SUNDANCE TV ORIGINAL SERIESALL NEW SERIES PREMIERES WED., JUN. 17 11/10c DEUTSCHLAND 83 | Official Trailer | SundanceTV - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4WIfrO0aig http://www.sundance.tv/series/deutschland-83 Throwing its weight behind a growing festival trend, this year's Berlinale has provided a red-carpet launchpad for new high-end TV drama as well as cinema. Scheduled to air later this year both domestically and on the Sundance channel, Deutschland 83 will be the first German-language series ever broadcast on a US network. Created by the German-American husband-and-wife team Anna and Jörg Winger for the local broadcaster RTL, Deutschland 83 is an eight-part miniseries set during a crucial year when Germany was at the center of escalating nuclear brinkmanship between NATO and the Soviet Union. The subject may be serious but the tone is engagingly light, recreating the cultural and political furniture of Cold War Europe through a Mad Men-style filter of knowing hindsight. DEUTSCHLAND 83 is a gripping coming-of-age story set against the real culture wars and political events of Germany in the 1980s. The drama follows Martin Rauch (Jonas Nay) as the 24 year-old East Germany native is pulled from the world as he knows it and sent to the West as an undercover spy for the Stasi foreign service. Hiding in plain sight in the West German army, he must gather the secrets of NATO military strategy. Everything is new, nothing is quite what it seems and everyone he encounters is harboring secrets, both political and personal. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/12/arts/television/deutschland-83-and-shkufim-are-among-exciting-international-series.html?_r=0http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/review/deutschland-83-berlin-review-772394

Galactus
... I'm honestly surprised that they haven't aired any german TV-shows before. None of those german period dramas? At all? Not even on the obscure period dram channel? I'm honestly shocked.
ElizabethB.
Me too but I thought the german Krimis were world renowned.

Given my girlfriend is German I've seen a lot more German-language films (local cinema and purchases) but it's really hard to find any TV. I can't find anything about this show being aired in the UK at all :( Odd because there are articles from British papers talking about it. Guess it'll just be a matter of time. King Tyrion I
Me too but I thought the german Krimis were world renowned. They are. Check out the "Tatort". ;o) A recommendation. There's even one which takes place at my place. I met the actors a couple of years ago. Back in 2004.

dog-days
BBC4 showed Reitz's Heimat trilogy almost a decade ago; however, those are technically films and not TV shows. Have any Germans here seen Deutschland 83? Is the dialogue good?

King Tyrion I
Ok, watched one episode and quite liked it :)Which episode takes place in Muenster? Have a look for Thiel/Boerne. The "Tatort" is Germany's oldest crime show so to speak. There's different teams in different cities. BBC4 showed Reitz's Heimat trilogy almost a decade ago; however, those are technically films and not TV shows.Have any Germans here seen Deutschland 83? Is the dialogue good? Not yet.
