Jaak
See an instructive comparison between English and Scotch ones: https://frh3.org.uk/redist/pdf/Carpenter_Scottish_Royal_Govt.pdf Page 22: Westminster benches tried 2500 cases per year in 1220s, and 8700 cases per year in 1320s. Page 30: English royal chancery issued 29 000 writs of course per year in 1320s. Same page: Scotch royal chancery issued at most 255 brieves of course in 1328-1329. Meaning that the total number of cases tried by Scotch king´s judges was at least 120 times smaller than that of England. Page 30 suggests Scotland had 6 times smaller population. I´ve seen numbers more like 5. Either way, a Scot had at most 1/20 the chance of getting justice from his King and King´s judges than an Englishman from his King - probably less. That´s the freedom the Scots fought for. How does Westeros compare? Who precisely at Winterfell is busy issuing writs/brieves of course? Are there any appreciable differences between the Seven Kingdoms, like the business of Winterfell and the business of the justiciars of Dorne? Ran
George has very little interest in that area, I have to say. When asked about who judged cases in KL, George just said the king would. Bit of a scale problem there, George.
