Why do so many people believe Aegon will be considered phony but Jon will be accepted as a Targ?

Ahem, the Ice Cells

The Ice Cells aren't that cold. It wouldn't stop the decomposition of Jon's body; it would only slow it down. If it was cold enough to stop the decay of a corpse, then anyone put in the Ice Cells would almost immediately die of severe hypothermia.

Using the Ice Cells as a means to slow the decay of Jon's body is plausible. It adds the dramatic element of Melisandre and friends having to race against time to come up with a solution. Given that Castle Black will be descending into chaos, that makes their situation that much more difficult. It also confirms what many people and myself have realized: Jon is not the male fantasy action-hero but a stand-in for the fairytale princess.

It's as if Dany and Jon switched roles. Dany, although female, is following "boy meets world and becomes the warrior-king." She's the Aragorn, the Luke Skywalker, the King Arthur, the Spider-Man of the story. Jon, although male, seems to have much more in common with Snow White, Sleeping Beauty or Belle from Beauty and the Beast. And the rug is pulled out from under them both of them in favor of Bran who is basically what would've happened if Aladdin disappeared and Jasmine became sultan in her own right, if Neville Longbottom was the Chosen One all along and killed Voldemort with the Sword of Gryffindor or if the Prince from Romeo and Juliet resigns and turns Verona's government into an oligarchical council.

Back on topic lol....

Decomposition is an interesting thing. It happens differently from body to body.

So for that matter, let's say that the extreme cold of the Ice Cells -- while not instantly killing anyone held there of severe hypothermia -- is enough to slow down the decomposition of Jon's body to a near standstill. The outside will look good but what of the inside.

If Melisandre uses magic to preserve Jon's body like Snow White's body was preserved, she is no Moqorro. Her magic -- while getting stronger and stronger -- is unreliable and she doesn't really know what she's doing. Ain't no telling what will happen.
