The ideal of (political) right

Ideas about what is right wing and left wing, or conservative and liberal, can change over time.

A good case in point, in the UK, is attitudes towards EU membership.  EU membership in the 1970's on the left, was mostly seen as membership of a selfish rich nations' club, which would impose Neo-liberal economics on the UK.  On the right, it was mostly seen as a check upon socialism, and strengthening European solidarity against the Warsaw Pact.

On each side, there were minorities who opposed the majority outlook.  Over time, those minorities became the majority on their side of the political spectrum.

Or take the free movement of capital, and labour, between nations.  Is that a right wing project, or a left wing project?  One can make the case either way.

Very few right leaning countries object to the easier movement of capital. Most do object to the freer movement of labour.
