I really can't believe no one has brought him up yet.

HOT PIE

His name alone is qualification enough to become king of westeros.
Not to mention his many talents: He's absolutely fearless, a real badass with a blade, he's the best tactician westeros has to offer AND, most importantly, he can bake pies.

You'll see, GRRM has great plans for this character.

Edit: Ok, real vote for JAIME. :)
In the first three books, Sansa was my least favorite POV to read, with Arya being my fave. AFFC changed that..so I suppose my favorite character is Petyr Baelish..he made Sansa POVs interesting.
I'll second that! AFfC turned me into a LittleFinger follower. I'm really rooting for him now...

Hey if its not to late I'd like to add my vote.

I really like Danys story and she is one of my favorites.
I also really like Bronn for some reason.
Hmmm, whats really not to like about Tyrion
But then again Jaqen H'Ghar is one of the most intriguing characters Ive run across so far.
Sandor one of the most tormented characters in the series, hes my favorite...
except for one little person

Arya Stark
Shes my #1 favorite.
A remorseless cold-blooded killer
Any doubts she has about her actions she quickly squashes.
Training to be an assassin? Nope.
Training to kill like an assassin.
Pray you favorite characters names never crosses her lips at bed time.
So far the Gods have answered her prayers...soon she wont need them.

So, yeah you can say I like her story arc. :)

(sorry just had to have some fun with this post)

I can see why everyone picked the people they did on this list, I may not agree with some but they're definitely notable and enjoyable characters.... except for two.

How can 3 people like Catelyn and 9 enjoy Sansa? Both these characters drive me up the wall. I definitely like Arya and Jon (I guess that explains my displeasure with the other two) but I've got to hand it to the little man that can:

Tyrion gets my vote, the man really is a giant in my perception and I enjoy how his mannerisms, thoughts and actions all play out. Definitely a "twist" to the normal fantasy character. Also probably the best Hand I've read. He went against the grain, but plays the game smartly while maintaining his morals. His arc is realistic because he is NOT perfect by any means. He makes mistakes just like the rest of us and well his physical appearance offends some. Yet time after time I find myself rooting for the "little guy" in this tale even though I still harbor grudges from the beginning towards his family. I liked Ned and what he stood for, he was oddly entertaining but too cliche and Martin was a genius for killing him.... It pissed me off but sure made the series stand out.

Who said they were unvalidated? I just asked why they liked them? moreover, what about them appeals to those readers because maybe they have picked up on something I missed. Hopefully it'd help me enjoy their PoVs more or give me a way to sympathize with their plights instead of going "not another Catelyn PoV".

Arya is popular because she is the only clever person in Stark family who actually does someting other than dying, escaping, afraiding etc... she does not give up. I am sure before AFFC Jamie would be as popular as his father but last book changed him dramatically.

Arya's arc is one long escape made from many small escapes, and she is as afraid as all the other Starks, more than some, actually.

Sometimes it's just so hard to distinguish between "characters I enjoy reading" (Sansa and Arya), "great characters" (Sandor and LF), and "characters I'm really really attracted to" (Theon).

However, only Jaime belongs in all three categories! Kingthlayer/Stumpy/Goldenhand the Just FTW!

i'll go with tyrion...
i love the way he deals with people giving him shit, instead of gratitude...
also, his "many people will rather deny the hard truth than face it" speech is one of the highlights of the series
