Melpomene
Just a simple question for lightearted discussion - let's say you are just a regular, everyday person in the world of ASOIAF. Which city or town would you want to live in specifically? Whether for weather, wealth, health, safety, architecture, the inhabitants etc The intellectual and clean Oldtown? The classical and quiet Winterfell/Wintertown? The seafaring culture of Braavos? The rustle and bustle (And smells) of King's Landing? Hilly Pentos? The isolated yet secure Eyrie? Valyria in its day? Somewhere else entirely? Big list out there! It can be both past or present if desired, since a lot of changes and factors often happen to various cities. And if you feel like adding, what towns/cities would you like to know more of? (My apologies in advance if a topic like this already existed)
DonalNoye
If I wasn't good enough to live in Winterfell, I think White Harbor would be pretty neat.
Black Amethyst
Definitely Oldtown. It's clean, it's cobblestoned, all the doctors live there, and it's located in a bountiful area for supplies and food. Also the war hasn't reached it. (as far as I know). I didn't even have to think about that one. :P
Timur Khal
Oldtown and White Harbor seem like pretty nice choices. I would say Gulltown, but we don't know enough of it to really answer on that.
Smallfolkperson
Lannisport - nice, rich, and peaceful. Also has Casterly Rock to provide defense.
Zar Lannister
Hmm...I'd live somewhere in the West. If in The Reach, Most Likely Highgarden. If in the West, Lannisport. Oldtown sounds like a nice place to go to school.
yoursweatersux
I've got sailing in my blood so it'd have to be Braavos. But if I were wealthy enough to have my own manse then Pentos, for sure.
Queen Arya
I think White Harbor or Highgarden would be nice (both cities seems very pretty). I wouldn't live in Winterfell just because the winter is a huge problem to deal if you are a common person. If i was a Lady i think i would like Winterfell or the Eyrie (i like quiet and beautiful places) or oldtown because it seems a safe place with a lot of things to teach. seanbean4lyfe
Highgarden!sounds like a dream! :)
estrellas
White Harbor if I could stand the cold, Sunspear if not. I like the Northern culture, and Dorne seems to have a similar thing going on - more freedom, more honor than the middle of Westeros.
ItIsKnown
Braavos - seems pretty cosmopolitan and free from raiding by Dothraki, etc.
voodooqueen126
Braavos (Free from Dothraki raiding, early capitalist economy, freedom etc), Sunspear (Women's rights, nice weather), Oldtown (education-like living in Oxford I imagine, only problem with Old town would be Iron born raids)
DornishPartisan
Mereen (roasted puppies, mmmmm...). No, seriously, Oldtown. Although if I could choose the Prince's water garden...what's not to love about the beach?
Jon Snow's Nuncle
Dorne for sure. Hot women, hot food, wine from the Arbor and the beach. What's not to love? Plus I'd want a holiday home in Highgarden. A man can dream
Toiltoil
I am from Norway, so it has to be in the north, so I would choose Winterfell
daenerys snow
i like cooler climates myself, but oldtowne has the library of the citadel. so that would be my choice unless i could get access to winterfell's awesome library tower. what can i say, i love books. ObsidianEdge
Oldtown seems the best place for a regular Pate or Wat to live. If I had something to offer the Kingdom, I imagine myself being born in Winterfell, trained and working in Kings Landing and hopefully retiring in my wife's home in Oldtown. If I was just a manual laborer, the Vale or River Run would be right up my alley, not including during the time of the War of Five Kings.Braavo's sounds interesting, too. A man could make a good living there being a tradesman.Any of the other cities on the other side of the Narrow Sea would you make you either unsuccessful, or a successful slaver or slave. No thanks. There would be something cool if not a little brutish about being born Dothraki. It's like NYC...if you can make it there, you should be able to make it anywhere. zmflavius
Braavos or Myr.
Irys
Either White Harbor or Braavos.I liked the description of White Harbor in ADwD and I like the religous tolerance and diversity of Braavos, sounds like a really interesting place. Alexia
Braavos would be my personal preference. If not there, then Oldtown would be perfect. I couldn't live in Winterfell because it is too cold.
