Who do you think has the best armor on the show?

Sandor's Hound

I love the Lannister armor design so much - it looks good on all the actors who've worn it, but I think we can all agree Tywin looks especially badass in it, yes! I am pretty fond of Brienne's too, even if it's not quite as blue as I'd imagined- it's quite cleverly made to make Gwendoline Christie appear much broader than she is, but does not necessarily hide she's a woman.

I love Sandor's snarling dog-shaped helmet--it's just as terrifying as in the books. But he barely even wears it anymore! I think he wore it in the opening scene of the Season 2 premiere, but I don't believe he put it on again the entire season :-(

Shouldn't he have worn it at some point during the Blackwater episode (to say nothing of Stannis, who was running around the front lines and climbing battlements with his head completely exposed). I guess as a practical concern, helmets impede great acting, since you don't get to see facial expressions, etc.

Still, I miss the Hound's cool helmet.

In terms of best design, that's really easy - Jorah Mormont's armor. Tywin's armor looks cool, but he has no chainmail protecting the vulnerable gaps. This is true of all Lannister armor.

Compare Tywin:-

to Jorah:-

Theon has similar armor when fighting with the North:-

Well both brought their armor from the North, and the costume/art direction staff has gone out of their way to show us that the Northmen favor utility and simplicity while the Southrons are more orante and ostentatious.

That's an awesome picture of Jorah, btw.

Thanks, I love taking screencaps. :)

(I own the blu-rays, wish I could take screencaps of them)

I take your point re the North, but the knights of the Reach (i.e. Loras) seem to understand the need for mail, as does Brienne, so the Lannister choice bothers me.

I've said it before, but Robb's armor being a mix of plate and the Stark leather* looks good but inexplicably leaves the Lord of Winterfell / King in the North with inferior protection to an exile knight and his *cough* friend Theon. It would've been better if Robb (and other Northern lords) was clad in mail, like in the book.

*The Stark leather looks a lot like a coat of plates, but is easily penetrated by spears in the show, for convenience's sake.

I did particularly like Stannis' and Tywin's armour and ofcourse Sandor's helm. I do wish they stuck a bit closer to some of the armour description in the book though, because those are beyond awesome. Especially with Renly's armour, which should've been much more distinctive for the Renly's Ghost thing to work.
