IRON BANK
AFTER ABOUT THE 1ST 100 PAGES AND SINCE YOU'VE SEEN THE SERIES YOUR PROBABLY GONNA HAVE TO GET TO SOME STUFF THAT HASN'T HAPPENED YET. BUT I ALWAYS ENCOURAGE THE BOOK IT HAS GREAT DETAILS. AND BACK STORY YOU FIND OUT WHY THE CHARACTERS ARE THE WAY THE PRESENT THEMSELVES.
Visen
For me it was after the first few chapters, so maybe a 100 - 150 pages.I liked the prolouge but then it took a bit of time as I learned about some of the characters and found some I liked, Arya, Tyrion and Eddard specificaly. Fable
When they found the wolf pups.I've just started reading the books now and as soon as Jon snow accepted the albino pup into his care I felt compelled to read on
KingAlanI
I saw Ned's executioner quote and stumbled across this wiki looking it up. Clicking around the wiki got me intrigued in the mythos, so I got library copies of the books. Once I got around to starting AGOT, I liked the prologue, and I was hooked once I got around to reading the rest of it.I'm in the middle of AFFC now; I haven't seen the TV show, but I have a library copy of the Season 1 DVDs in hand. One of my friends who likes the series is a social outcast and a dog person, even more so than I am on both counts, so that person especailly identifies with Jon-Ghost. Jon is one of my favorites amongst other characters.
The Sleeping Lion
After I was finished with the first Bran chapter I went out and bought the next two books. All of the backstory really grabs my attention. All of the intrigue and little mysteries that you don't ever receive an outright answer to. Woftis
I'd seen the series so it was a bit more difficult to get hooked but I absolutely loved the back story (first couple of chapters, when you learn a bit about Lyanna).I REALLY got hooked on ASoS though :D
Horza
Bran's chapter sold me. Just amazing.
Ürglõvi
Pretty much from the beginning. I got the first book as a Christmas present and decided to read at least one chapter the same evening. Then I read another... and another... and another. However, it wasn't until I reached the second Bran chapter with all that it entailed that I realised I wasn't going to get any sleep that night. Wankerfell
I had never read fantasy prior to this series. Ever. I was into short fiction mainly, a lot of sci-fi and new weird. But I kept hearing that this guy was the business, so I picked up AGoT hoping for the best. I must have started reading that prologue a dozen times before I actually finished it. By the end, when Ser Raymar makes his "return," I was all-in. It took about two weeks to finish each of the first four books, which I read in succession. grod823
When Ned Stark was asked to be Hand of the King was what sold me. The dynamic of a hardened character helping his friend (knowing that he has changed from who he once was) changed sold it for me.
Lord Flashheart
The min Bran went flying out that window. I had to see the fallout. After that it was all over, full blown addict.
Maegor the Cuddly
For me, it was Tyrion challenging Alliser Thorne to a duel with his fork. Took a little bit, but I got hooked right then and there.
Theon's Missing Finger
Well.. I watched the telly box series first before I even knew of the books.. So I think for me it was when Cat arrested Tyrion for the attempted murder or Bran. When it actually started to hit home this thing might be getting interesting..Up until that point I was somewhat unimpressed and had even considered not watching any more ! Crazy, I know
Sherlockian
While I knew I was going to love the book from the beginning, what really had me to the point where I couldn't put the book down was the Hands Tourney and Tyrion being captured. The Lady Leela
I started reading the first book about six months ago and for some reason couldn't get into it. I made it more than halfway through and then lost interest. But I just picked it up again and I find I can't put it down now. I think it's probably because season 3 is here and it reminded me how great these characters are. I also have favorite characters now, whereas before I hadn't been able to decide if I had a favorite. I liked a lot of them, but never really loved them as much as I love Margaery now.So I guess for me the show did it.
Lord Duncan
I actually watched the TV show before reading the books. And I think the ending of the 1st episode really left me wanting more."The things I do for love"Boy, what an episode ending!
BlackBrother55
The prolouge was pretty much what hooked me on the books. But it really wasnt until Bran fell that I really became obsessed with the book.
