POV in Casterly Rock, Lannisport and Highgarden

Recommended Posts

In several places, it's been mentioned by GRRM that we will have a view of Casterly Rock/ Lannisport and Highgarden by the end of the series or potentially in TWOW. It's also been mentioned that there will be no new POVs for the following books. If this is true then we have a destination and a very finite amount of possibilities of people who would be there. With these two things we have a pretty good chance to guess the direction the plot could take, or who by default would need to survive long enough to, at least, serve the function of describing these interesting places.

If they travel to these cities in ADoS, I guess it could be many more, but still there are some that would be much more likely to go than others. But providing that these two places are visited in TWoW and by already established POVs, who do you think it could be the most likely to visit these cities in TWoW?

The closest or most likely POVs to go to Castely Rock / Lannisport:

Jaime: Provided he lives after the confrontation with Brienne and the BwB, he planned to go there escorting Edmure. Potential appearance of Blackfish? Or maybe defense of Lannisport from an Ironborn attack by Euron.

Cersei: Less likely but maybe she wil be weak enough after the trial to be browbeaten into returning to Casterly Rock to get married...

Aeron: Promises to continue to fight Euron's claim after the Kingsmoot. Maybe he goes to Lannisport in an Ironborn attack, or to look for outside help against Euron...

Other less likely POVs: Tyrion wants to be Lord of Casterly Rock but he's on the other side of the world.

Brienne: She could go if she was with Jaime but why?

Samwell: After becoming a maester he could take a trade vessel north to the Wall and stop there...

Catelyn: After her death, we haven't seen her POV as she has turned to Stoneheart, but if there is some of Catelyn in Stoneheart, Catelyn could be a POV. She does have a motive to go there: rescue Edmure and kill Lannisters, lots of Lannisters.

Highgarden:

Samwell: Is close by in Oldtown. Could go the land route north and stop in Highgarden. Many have supposed that he will begin to lead the defenses against the Ironborn, maybe that leads him there.

Arianne / Jon Connington: Many already suspect that the Golden Company will look for support in the Reach, if Arianne unites Dorne with the GC, she seems like a more likely candidate to go there than Jon Con. But if not he could still go...

Other less likely POVs: Cersei, again browbeaten, but this time, to marry Willas Tyrell, she is sent to Highgarden. This is possible but it leaves the Kings Landing without a POV character...

Aeron: Some suspect the Ironborn to go up the Mander and attack or do a Viking move and portage their longships and attack from the south. Aeron could be with them...

The only others that are in the south are: Areo and Brienne. I don't think its very likely, but who knows...

I suppose the only other way that we would see this cities in TWOW without considerable plot twists with the other characters, is through the Epilogue / Prologue sections like in AFfC.

Well what can you come up with?

Cersei: Less likely but maybe she wil be weak enough after the trial to be browbeaten into returning to Casterly Rock to get married...

Cersei might go to Casterly Rock without getting forced into a marriage, voluntarily. Casterly Rock isn't a prison, it's her stronghold. The Tyrells have no power there. The High Septon holds less power in Casterly Rock than he does in King's Landing. The Rock might even offer safety from the assassins who killed Ser Kevan.

She might go to the Rock for the protection it offers. Where else would she go if Aegon forces Lannisters and Tyrells from King's Landing? Where else could she go, and still be in charge?

She might try to take Tommen to Casterly Rock. The Tyrells have no power there. No power over her, no power over Tommen - she would be in control of Tommen again. In full control of the king. If she can't pry Tommen away from the Tyrells, she could still take Myrcella.

I think that Cersei is more likely than Jaime to be the POV at Casterly Rock.

I don't think Cersei will be the POV. She is too obsessed with keeping power with her and away from Tyrells to leave KL. Moreover, now there isn't anyone who can order her to do something like marry someone or go to Casterly rock. Tywin had that power and no one else.

Probably Kevan but he is now dead too.

I am convinced that she will insist on Casterly Rock's army coming to KL when faced with threat from the golden company.

I think Highgarden's POV will be Sam and Casterly rock's POV will be Damphair.

I do not believe we will see Casterly Rock through a Lannister's eyes..more likely it is Arianne or Jon Conn looking for allies in the west.

Who is currently in charge of the "Rock"?

Maybe convince a powerful house in the west that the Lannisters are finished. Forge an alliance and do what Theon did to Winterfell!

Tini,

I suppose Cersei could head with Tommen to Casterly Rock. This would have to mean that they would have accepted that the Lannister hold on the IT is over. In other words, the Tyrells have taken over completely... Or more likely, that they have switched sides to go to Aegon. I do believe that Cersei wouldn't leave for anything less than having the complete security that there is hope to continue retaining the IT alive.

Angelodebo,

I believe Devan Lannister is the Warden of the West, which means he's the military leader of all the Westerlands, but not necessarily "in charge of the Rock".

I expect Tommen to be killed and Cersei's power to be taken. With Aegon's army approaching after Tarly and others betray the Tyrells, she'll have few options. Cersei'll flee to Casterly Rock to meet her end at the hands of her volonqar, who will kill her out of pity more so than hate.

Highgarden seems like a prologue/epilogue location.

You are probably right about Cersei leaving - she had obviously forgotten that she is the lady of Casterly Rock until Ser Kevan reminded her of it. I don't think Casterly Rock has an army that she can order to KL, though. There are Lannister hosts, but they are in the Riverlands with Jaime. If she wants more of an army, she must raise one (and I don't think she is capable of doing it). There are probably only the guards at Casterly Rock now - and even Cersei won't be stupid enough to strip the Rock of its defenders.

Cersei may have lost her hold on King's Landing already. Ser Kevan stripped her of power and dignity. She is back in the Royal Palace but still a prisoner awaiting trial. Ser Kevan can no longer force her to do anything, but neither can he protect her. She will not get her lost power back just because Ser Kevan died. She has Qyburn and Ser Robert Strong. But they might not be enough to keep her safe now that Ser Kevan is no longer in control.

I don't think Cersei is strong enough to take on the Tyrells. She might be able to take out some Tyrells, but not all. And then there is the Faith. I think it would be smart to leave the royal palace (and KL) to regroup. Cersei might see that differently, of course.

  1. Tyrion will end up as Lord of Casterly Rock at some point. Danaerys will absolve him of his kinslayer status in return for throwing in with her and slaying her family's worst enemy in Westeros (Lord Tywin). Cersei is the Queen and will remain in Kings Landing with Tommen. Jaime is in the Kingsguard and his son is the King. I don't see either of them going all the way to the Rock until Aegon gets to the Capital.
  2. Highgarden is most likely Sam based on proximity to the Castle. He will have to face his father eventually and Lord Tarly is Mace Tyrell's right-hand man. As a Maester Sam will most likely return to the Wall via the Kingsroad since his previous trip overseas was pretty much terrible.
  3. Highgarden will most likely be in the seventh book when Danaerys is in Westeros. I think Danaerys will arrive via Dragonstone and go straight for the Capital. If the dragons burn down the city which is full of Wildfire as Aerys once said "let Robert be King of bones and ashes", the Tyrells and Lannisters, and potential Blackfyres will go home. Tyrion will use this information to gain favour with the Dragon Queen by giving her a means to defeat her enemies and win her throne.
  4. Lannisport is probably also Tyrion for no other reason than it is right beside the rock.
  5. As for Prologue or Epilogue im hoping for Redwynes vs iron men at the Arbor

I love the idea that Randyll Tarly will betray the Tyrells, and I think it's very plausible.

If Cersei loses the trial by combat then she would be executed, no?

In that case, if she could escape, she would flee to Casterly Rock. Once there she could conceivably welcome the Iron Born in the hope of regaining some semblance of power and of protecting her son. Can't see the point of anyone else going there. I can't see Jaime going there, unless his sister was there already.

I've no idea who will be what and how many we'll get, but I imagine the first POV we'll have of Casterly Rock will be Cersei, who by all rights of the current rulers of the Seven Kingdoms is its rightful heir and- after the business at King's Landing is done, is most likely the first place she'll flee to/be sent to.

First post here, I think we might see some turbulence in Westerlands that would require one of main branch Lannisters to go there and starting setting up a manhunt on Edmure Tully(who to what I hope and I think) who never reached Casterly Rock with his escort.

I think out of safety reasons it will be Cersei witnessing departure from KL with King Tommen and politics of Casterly Rock lords in current matters: 2nd dissapearance of Jaime Lannister, Blackfish, Edmure and possible discussion on Jeyne Westerling fate(matter being revised due to looking @ " Stark in Winterfell turbulence " on the North), apart from that further discussion about BwB(which will end up being Stannis' guerilla(thus GoT replacement of Edric and Gendry) army focused on destabilizing Frey & Lannister rule in Riverlands), and prolly a discussion on Ironmen raids that are reeking of possible incoming raids on their lands.
