Scenario for Book Readers

Imagine this setup. Five military leaders in the series.

Stannis Baratheon, Robb Stark, Randyll Tarly, Tywin Lannister, and Daenerys Targaryen. They each have thirty thousand soldiers.

You can decide what they'd realistically have in the ways of troops, but for the sake of reasonable fairness let's try and give them close to equal proportions of cavalry and infantry.

They each have a bonus element in their armies. Tywin has the Mountain, Stannis has Melisandre and the ability to use her magic once. Dany has Barristan Selmy (dragons are too OP for this situation), Randyll has the funds for an extra 10,000 more soldiers, and Robb has Greywind.

Every one of the leaders has to fight each of the others once, and the battlefields are all in, say, the Riverlands.

Who emerges on top?

OK. Again

1. Robb attacks Tywin. I think Tywin would lose because as we see from Tywin's defeat at the Fords he's not an exceptional tactician. Tywin retreats to Stoney Sept.

2. Randyll, seeing a chance to off Tywin, attacks Tywin at Stoney Sept and smashes him. Tywin flees to the east.

3. Stannis kills Tywin.

4. Robb and Randyll face each other, maybe at Pinkmaiden. The fighting is fierce, but when Randyll's reinforcements arrive Robb is defeated and retreats to Riverrun.

5. Stannis attacks and takes out Randyll who is besieging Riverrun.

6. Shadow assassin kills Robb. The end.

ETA:Forgot about Dany. Oops.

I'm saying only once for this context. Makes it more of a challenge. Anyway he won't necessarily have to depend on shadow babies. Only Randyll will outnumber him the rest will have an equal amount of troops. It's about leadership here.

Personally, I think Stannis would be able to defeat Dany and Tywin, and use his shadow baby on Randyll allowing him the victory there. Robb is a slightly different case because of his sheer talent as a warlord. Not so sure which of them would win.

Randyll would lose to Stannis, and probably Robb, but he would win against Tywin and Dany.

Dany would be able to defeat Tywin due to her varied forces and their dedication to her cause (not to mention Barristan as her second) but against the others she would lose due to inexperience.

Tywin would overall lose to all four of his opponents in battle, hence why his biggest triumphs were done away from the battlefield.

Dany does not compare in terms of military leadership to leaders like Tywin, Robb and Stannis.

Tywin isn't that great as a battle commander. He relies on trickery and other allies doing the grunt work. When it comes to open battle he lost to Edmure Tully for the Gods' sake. All his biggest achievements in the war were done by avoiding open battle through deceit and bribery and betrayals.

Dany meanwhile will have Dothraki cavalry, unsullied troops, and others who all love her too much to ever betray her. So she'd likely defeat the Lannisters in combat. And Barristan can kill the Mountain for her.

Wait, so is it "who would win in indivudal fights" or "if all five armies are at it at once"?

It's the former.

Think of it like this:

Stannis vs Tywin

Dany vs Randyll

Randyll vs Stannis

Stannis vs Robb

Robb vs. Tywin

Tywin vs. Randyll

Stannis vs Dany

Dany vs. Tywin

Robb vs. Randyll

Dany vs. Robb

Each has fought the others once, and they've all fought four battles. Out of four for each of them, who'd win the most victories and thus be the one on top. The conditions are in the original post.

Then

Stannis: 4/4

Randyll: 1/4

Dany: 0/4

Tywin: 2/4

Robb: 3/4
