ReRead GoT - DIREWOLVES, DRAGONS [Eggs], MORMONT’S RAVEN, AND CATS! OH MY!  Pets or Providence?

Welcome, everyone!    Are you ready to go back to GoT?  

Let’s share and compare, run and have fun!  We have an awesome group gathered to participate, and maybe others will even join up along the way.
This thread is just what it says – and most of you know what we are about through PM’s.  Reread Starts NOVEMBER 5, and a schedule follows.
We are analyzing the aspect of the direwolves of House Stark, the dragons, [or in the case of AGoT, dragon eggs], Mormont’s tricksy bird, and cats as both pets and as agents of providence – are these creatures far more than what they seem?  [Well, I would think so].  But also we need to keep in mind their “pet aspect” – for they all can be loving and loyal, yet they can also be deaf to commands and annoying like all pets can be – in the most loving way possible.  Mormont may complain about his bird, but Argh!  He loves that bird, yes?
A few basic rules I garnered from other reread “posts” [This is my first reread], and I put them here to remind myself as well, because I get excited at times and forget myself, so maybe this will help us all:

• We need to STAY ON POINT.  Try not to jump ahead in the book if possible.  However, I think we need to make exceptions when we are discussing foreshadowing in the current novel and the remaining novels of ASoIaF.
  
  
• We are reading ALL of AGoT because we just never know when an animal will show up, or be mentioned in another context.  For instance, Tyrion’s POV’s informs us about dr _ _ _ _s!
  
  
• If you are busy and can’t keep up, check out the links at Tower of the Hand.  This should catch you up enough so that you can enjoy the conversation and the FUN!
  
  
• In chapters where an animal may not appear, then we can discuss the animals who are related to that environment.  For instance, in the Prologue, maybe our target animals do not appear, but we learn a great deal about the “background environment” where certain animals WILL appear, so we can find lots to discuss regardless.
  
  
• Sometimes people behave like animals – Mormont is oft described in “bear” verbs, he paws, he growls, he grunts, and more.  So let us not miss these references as well.
  
  
• Getting off topic – Hey, this happens.  As long as we return to the main course without too much deviation,  I think we will be fine.
  
  
• Let us work together in a spirit of cooperation and sharing.  No flaming, please.  Everyone has a right to his/her opinion, and lively debate is allowed – but please, no nastiness – no name calling or veiled insults to the intelligence of another being “lacking”.  [I have been called an “assassin lover”].  I mess up at times – I can’t keep my maesters straight, I forget the colors of the eyes of the animals, and I can’t follow a map worth a darn – yet I still put myself out there with sincerity and do not mind being corrected.  But no one needs to be insulted for making a blunder, yes?
  
  
• IMO, WE ALL have something to offer.  Our group is from everywhere around the world, so I am excited to hear  all the wonderful perspectives everyone will have to offer.
  
  
• I think most of us have pets, or have had a pet in the past.  This first-hand knowledge will help in the analysis – and once in a while, we may even mention our dogs and cats  or other? In relation to Martin’s work, of course!  Personally, I love reading about such stuff – for I mention my own dogs and their behaviors in relevance to Martin’s work. • Some other reread threads have certain posters who kick off each chapter with a summary written by them.  I am not a summary hog – so if you wish to introduce a chapter, let me know.  I think this is best done through PM’s, and I keep a chart – so send me a PM with requests.
  
  
• I am by no means the Posting Police.  Correct me if I make any procedural errors?!

<sup>Here is the “working schedule for the reread.  Please check it over for errors in dates.  I did account for the holidays and hunting season, allowing extra time so you have your family time without having to worry about rereading and posting.  I hope this is to everyone’s satisfaction.

I paired up two chapters at a time.  So for November 5-10, we discuss chapters 1 and 2; then for November 11-13, we discuss chapters 3 and 4.  And so on.  I linked the first two chapters to the Tower of the Hand – and I hope this information takes in my post.  Sometimes everything screws up when I hit the POST button!

Feel free to warm up before the actual reread starts.  Tell me what I am doing wrong so I can fix it.  I appreciate any advice.</sup>

Well, ROLEX BARATHEON, you are welcome to cover the LIONS, for they are CATS.

And as for the KRAKEN, I couldn't fit everything on the little line they give us for a post.   I am sure we can fit the Kraken in as well, and you are welcome to introduce the chapters that mention either or both.  Just let me know.

Hi!  We’re opened and ready for business!

The re-read begins November 5, so the “kick offs” will begin with The Pack Survives and me introducing chapters 1 and 2, respectively. We will try to post our finds Sunday night to be ready for Monday’s attack!

Although count me “obsessed” I am sooo excited, I am ready to start NOW!

Until then, and since our thread says PETS as one means to attack our target animals, let us SHARE links to pictures of our beloved pets, presently or from the past?

Little question about the schedule:
If I understand right the dates mentioned are the dates we start reading the chapters, right? So on November 5th we've finished the Prologue and start reading Bran & Catelyn, did I get that right?

This is what the OP said:

Ah thanks, I got a bit confused by the page numbers, I read 1-11 after Prologue as November 1, because where I live (Netherlands we write a date as dd-mm-yy --> Nov 1 (in US 11/01/12) = 01-11-'12 here. I get it now

LITTLE WING:  Well, I met your family.  Sarah is a beautiful dog.  Lovely, glossy coat.  And Mr Gray [sorry, I think of Christian Grey as Mr. Grey] is smart looking, but that black and white cat is a show stopper.  What coloring.

Your pup and kitties are special, and they look most happy and heathy.   Thanks for sharing!

MANDERLY'S RAT COOK:  Sjors - well, I love he opened mouth.  Did you see my old Prince I picture?  He is showing teeth as well, just like Sjors.   I loved him in the scales - and those blue eyes are to die for.  How did you get such perfect shots?   They could be on a kitty calendar - you and LITTLE WING should get together and do a pussycat calendar with pictures of your cats.

How can such a sweety pie be evil?  Oh, I know.  I have a piece of a Reeses' cup, and my little Bella is giving me a story - she thinks she can talk.  So IO am hearing the Reses' Peanut Butter Lament!

ARABELLA VIDAL:  It looks like he is a punk rock kitty cat.  Is that a mohawk hairstyle?  He looks as if they colored his fur and hair.

I put make-up on my Moses for the Twilight Series openings.  He is a theatre dog, and he plays Jacob Black the werewolf side at the premieres. He was just groomed because he has a big deal on November 15 for the Breaking Dawn II premiere.  I will take pictures and link them after the event.  I may not do makeup, even though he is such a ham, he just loves having makeup put on and his picture taken.

Then he loves to visit the movie patrons and pose with them as Jacob the werewolf.  He has been in the newspaper many times for his theatre performances.  Like I said, he is a big ole ham.
