Lady Stoneheart - Jaime - Brienne

Why would Stoneheart trust Jaime about anything, least of all her children? Even putting aside the whole "sends his regards" stuff at RW, he crippled Bran.

Lady Stoneheart will not trust Jaime's word again, not after "Jaime Lannister sends his regards."

It's not like she trusted his word before that either, all these oaths in the cell at Riverrun she made him swear were just a bit of an additional precaution, he still went in chaines and escorted by Brienne.

When reading about this topic, it seems like people rarely mention the Weirwood stump dream Jaime had in ASOS. I have to wonder why? So much of that dream has already come true. For example, the bear pit, Oathkeeper, Joffrey’s death, and Tywin’s death were all foretold. And I’m not asking that question to point a finger at readers for “missing” something. I’m just curious. Is it because people don’t see it as a legitimate prophecy? Or do people think it’s just not relevant?

IMO, that dream has already foreshadowed specific events in Jaime’s story and could potentially give insight into the outcome of the LS situation.

In the Weirwood stump dream, Jaime’s life was tied to Brienne somehow. He did not die with Cersei. He did not follow Cersei. Instead, he went in a separate direction. When he faced his doom, Brienne was by his side. She was portrayed as a benevolent figure that was there to protect him.

“The flames will burn so long as you live,” he heard Cersei call. “When they die, so must you.”

“I swore to keep you safe,” the wench said stubbornly. “I swore an oath.”

The fires that ran along the blade were guttering out, and Jaime remembered what Cersei had said. No. Terror closed a hand about his throat. Then his sword went dark, and only Brienne’s burned, as the ghosts came rushing in.

-ASOS

Given this foreshadowing, I don’t believe Brienne will kill Jaime or lead him to his death. Otherwise, she would have been portrayed as a malevolent or ominous figure in the dream. I don’t believe Brienne will die before Jaime. And I don’t believe Jaime will die with Cersei.

I think Jaime is a tragic figure that will redeem himself. Much of the real immoral acts he has committed has been because of Cersei and Tywin. He wanted to be an honorable heroic warrior type. I think the whole biblical "if your right hand offends you, cut it off," applies here and with it Jaime's sin of vanity. He is going to come out as a hero in the end. He is going to kill Cersei.

@killing Cersei: If Jaime is the valonqar I think there is still some time for that. If Cersei wins the trial & survives there has to be some major things before she decides to burn KL. Till then Jaime could be kept busy in Braavos searching Arya. I do not think Cersei is going to take it kindly that Jaime did not come when she commanded it, his cut sword hand not withstanding. If Cersei wins the trial she will still be able to command the Lannister men. She may no longer have the power she once had, but she will still be Tywin's daughter & she will also have Qyburn. This is what I had meant by the cersei sending men after him in my post.

@LS being a creature of hate: I would very much have Cat gain some sense at least after dying. She has had some real dumb moments. It would be nice to see her differentiate between the good & bad Lannisters for once.

@Bran: Yes he did cripple him. But who is talking about forgiving him completely? She can make him do her work of getting her daughter back & then kill him.

One argument presented above which I agree with is that why will LS put her daughter's safety in Jaime's hand. Maybe she sends Gendry or some men from the Brotherhood with him as she had sent Brienne from Riverrun.

True. When Cat released Jaime, she wasn't placing any faith in him; she was placing her faith in Brienne's honor that she would deliver him to KL, and Tyrion's honor that he would release her children when Jaime arrived.

I'm not sure if any rational person in Stoneheart's position could trust Jaime now. The only way she could know that he is not some monster is if she read his POV chapters. Without that insight, it looks like he completely botched the last mission she gave him; he failed to return either of her daughters to her, Sansa was forced into marrying Tyrion to steal Winterfell, and he probably took up arms against the Tullys when he returned to the Riverlands to help end the sieges.
