Harys Swyft's fate

Recommended Posts

The older guard says to Raff "If he goes back without the gold the queen will have his head". The older guard seems to be fairly intelligent compared to the average Clegane man-at-arms. He knows things about Essos, thinks it's a ridiculous notion that the dwarf in the play could be Tyrion and isn't a creep like the rest of them. So overall i personally consider him a fairly reliable source and it implies Cersei is in power again. She can't execute Swyft unless she's in a position of power and all her power comes from being Tommen's regent

What if they left before the trial, still thinking she is in charge?

I really doubt there's been a trial yet. Cersei did her walk of shame, but the trials have yet to have been held. However, King's Landing needs money and business has to go on.

There's something weird about his wife. No wife is mentioned in any of the books, and whoever did the Wiki entry didn't even bother showing a box for "unknown wife", probably because we don't even know what House she was from. But he has children, one of whom married Kevan Lannister.

The only woman mentioned in any book who is so fat she might have problem walking down passageways in Casterly Rock is Genna Lannister, but she's married to Emmon Frey. Jaime thinks to himself that Emmon couldn't weigh more than 10 stone (140 lbs) soaking wet with armor on, and Genna was three of him. Could Emmon have been caught and hanged by the Brotherhood? And Genna married Harys ...naaaawww, it doesn't make sense.

But for the first time GRRM mention's Harys' wife - could that have some significance? Every character who ever mentions Swyft is very uncomplimentary about the man, but with all the killing that went on at the end of aDwD, and because George has said we will finally see Casterly Rock (as well as Highgarden) in tWoW, maybe we need to think about his wife as well. The two of them together may have roles to play.

It really does not look good for Ser Harris. I like the idea that the Lannisters didn't pay because they ha e run out of money, Robert borrowed a lot from them during his reign. It all comes down to LF who got the IT into this mess. IF he has a plan to get them out it will not be until part of the end game, and by then. Swyft will be fried chicken

If Cersei has regained some power, that to me implies that the trials HAVE happened, because it is only by winning her trial that she could regain any authority. To me it also implies the power of the. Tyrells has been reduced, probably because of Margery's trial combined with military losses to Euron in the South, and defections of several banner men to support fAegon.

I think Varys would do everything he could to make sure Cersei WAS back in power, because at this point her support is extremely weak and she has no friends, meaning that when fAegon is ready to take King's Landing there will be practically no resistance. So Varys WANTS her in power for the time being.

I think after Kevan died, Cersei got TOmmen to sign a royal decree naming her Regent once more.

And I don't think Harys's mission in Braavos will meet with any success-they've already cast their lot with Stannis and written off the Lannister's completely.

My only problem with that idea is the fact that the trials of Cersei and Margaery are going to have a significant build-up in WoW - they aren't going to be popped off in one opening chapter, there will be several chapters or even more than several chapters. It's not going to be a repeat of Tyrion, where events happened very quickly because Tywin wanted to get rid of him ASAP. Cersei is going to go out kicking and screaming and snarling. In the meantime she'll be re-appointed Queen Regent because there's nobody left to take the job after Kevan's murder.

I think the only reasonable possibility of the trial being over is if the Braavos chapter comes towards the end of WoW, but I feel like this is one of the earlier chapters in the book because the money situation in King's Landing is getting very desperate.

Why? It is up to the Faith and they have no reason to delay. There is nothing to build up. The trials are imminent, and they will lead directly to the "three queens" conflict referred to by LF. There are only two books left. No room to delay with unnecessary manoevres in KL. We need to move on the the fight for Winterfell, the aftermath at the Wall, a new "dance of dragons" LF's moves with Sansa and then a "war for the dawn". Why waste time on KL intrigue when we already know where it leads - a clash between Lannisters, Tyrells, the Faith Millitant and Martells? There is also the battle of Meereen and Dany's fate with the Dothraki to cover.

This

I realize there are a lot of Cersei fans out there but these books have spent enough time in KL when the much larger issues have taken a back seat. George can not spend another 500 pages going down memory lane with "Maggie the Frog", ghosts under casterly rock, quaithe and the rest of the riddles without answers. If he does there either needs to be 3 more, 1,000 published page books or the final books will be as fulfilling as "kissing your sister."

He already said there will be several more persons sitting on the IT, and at this point the IT feels like winning a stuffed bear at the carnival, cheap and easily replaced.

The larger issues are how do you wind up the Norths future and give some meaning to:

1. Danys world tour

2. Dorne

3. The iron islands place in the world

4. Stannis

5. R+L=J?

Enough about KL....
