Dofs
Which still leaves my question unanswered. Is there any actual textual evidence that he was named after the "bad" King(s) Tyrion? There is non. But Cersei once said that Tyrion was the name of the kings and that her brother shamed it or something like that. So this name doesn't seem to be remembered as a bad one so I don't believe that Tywin named his son after the Tormentor king.
Bryanfury
Just going from the current generation of Lannisters:TywinTyrionTytosTyrekTyget vs JaimeCerseiKevanGennaGerionDavenLancelStaffordMartynJoyCerennaDamionMyrielleMargotLannaWillemJanei Yeah, some Lannisters have names starting with Ty-. More of them don't. It's not a family tradition to specifically name your favoured son and heir a Ty- name.
Queen.Sansa.Lannister
That was not the only Tyrion in the Lannister history. How do you know she wasn't naming him after one of the nice ones?GRRM said Tywin named Tyrion, not Joanna.
Boarsbane
GRRM said Tywin named Tyrion, not Joanna. That would be rather hard to do from the grave

Boarsbane
If you think Tywin was in the grave when Tyrion was born I suggest you read the books again. Or maybe I was talking about the lady who died giving birth to Tyrion
Lady Blizzardborn
GRRM said Tywin named Tyrion, not Joanna. GRRM said "most likely" Tyrion was named by his father, which means he hadn't thought that far yet. Joanna could have chosen the name before she died, and Tywin was honoring her wishes.
