Another Twitter #Hashtag Campaign Goes Wrong

We're at the point where these happen often enough for them to be recounted in a dedicated thread, rather than just a new thread each time one happens.

The latest I've heard about was from Coca-Cola, who tried to be clever and instead made things much worse for themselves.

Knowing corporate hashtag campaigns receive a lot of negative responses from the Twitterverse, they created a bot to use those negative tweets to create ASCII art. So someone started using the hashtag to quote Mein Kampf... And the Coca-Cola account obediently replied using those tweets in images.

Inventive from both parties but it still leads to another collapsed hashtag campaign. I do wonder when companies/people will realise that these campaigns just don't work.

#KeepTony - intended to be in support of officially-most-unpopular-Australian-PM-ever Tony Abbott who is, at least according to the media, on the edge of being ditched by his own party. This is about two weeks after he referred to social media as online graffiti. Maybe his version of 'for a good time, call...'?

Tony Abbott is toxic to Libs. Each day Tone stays PM, Lib polling drops by 1%. Libs, you must keep Tone. #KeepTony #libspill #auspol
