syrioforelseesforreal
So just flimsy, circumstantial evidence here, more of a hunch.Brandon was known to be short-tempered and it is never stated as to how word of Lyannas "kidnapping" is spread. Doesn't seem like a stretch that LF could predict how'd he (brandon) react and how Aerys would react, and spread a rumor of said " kidnapping" having knowledge of their (Rhaegs n Lyanna) relationship somehow. Dunno, again just a hunch.

syrioforelseesforreal
What part of his death was he involved with? He had no power or influence at that time. He had cunning and likely kept tabs on his romantic rival, wouldn't be hard to spread a rumor and let hot-headed Brandon do the rest. Plus he sent that letter shortly after to Cat... LF did this because he knew it would get Brandon killed. It is possible, but there is nothing that I recall from the text to support this. I think Petyr took his time to plan the take down of houses Stark, Arryn, Tully, and Baratheon. Littlefinger has done a fine job of destroying the Starks, Arryns, Tullys, and Baratheons. He just needs to finish them off to complete his revenge.

Lady Barbrey
What part of his death was he involved with? He had no power or influence at that time. The trope of the 'unreliable messenger' is pretty heavy in Norse and medieval tales. I've always thought Benjen might have inadvertently played that part; hence the guilt he has though we don't know why. I could totally see Littlefinger playing Benjen at that age to deliver a message to Brandon that Lyanna had been abducted and was on the verge of being raped instead of the real more innocuous reason, whatever that might be. Just a thought.

Not much evidence, but I think we will find LF's manipulations are more widespread than we know, I think his Bravossi heritage is significant, and wouldn't be the least bit suprised if him and Varys have been in cahoots for some time. Lord Wraith
While I certainly believe Petyr capable of such a thing the timing doesn't really fit. He was half dead and being carried back to Fingers when it occured. Perhaps already at the Fingers recooperating. Petyr doesn't have to be responsible for everything that happens. Ser Patroclo
There is as much evidence for this theory in the books as much for the existence of dragons in real life. Keep it real.

Yeah, but Brandon isn't at Riverrun very long after their duel, and he doesn't learn of the "kidnapping" while in Riverrun either. Slowpoke Martin
Littlefinger was a little kid recovering at home after getting his ass shredded. Did he pull some mind control magic out of his ass for this to happen? The Littlefinger we know from the books got his power well after the Rebellion and after Lysa had to carry his worthless ass to the top.
Craster'sFavouriteSon
While this isn't uncharacteristic of Littlefinger, how would he know of Lyanna leaving with Rhaegar before Brandon and why would it be Littlefinger to break the news to him? It wasn't him.
