sarah.jenice Posted December 31, 2015 Share Posted December 31, 2015 Tyrion is being accused of the most serious crime there is - killing the king - so if he wants to prove he is innocent in the eyes of the gods via a trial by combat, his champion is going to have to truly fight someone to the death and win. This has been a very public trial and there are way too many people involved for Cersei to change her champion to someone Jaime could actually beat without it causing an uproar. Mace Tyrell thinks his daughter could have been killed too, so there's no way he'd be satisfied watching the crown's champion basically throw the fight to let Jaime win. From what we see during Jaime's training, he couldn't have believably beaten anyone with his left hand at that point.Cersei also might have been so pissed at Jaime's betrayal that she would have let him face Gregor. Cersei and Tywin could have ordered Gregor to incapacitate Jaime but not kill him, so it would be possible for Jaime to lose and live with Tyrion still found guilty. Now, there is a question who will die for Tyrion? They could make a play somehow, train the two of them for couple of days and crowns champions family can be very generously rewarded, because this is not about Tyrion anymore, but about Jaime. Cersei might be angry and want to let him die, but Tywin wont, especially if Jaime realises that KL is not a place for him anymore a d strikes a deal with Tywin that he takes CR if he survives or something like that. But as sarah mentioned, there would be an uproar and a cry of a fix if the champion is changed to someone Jaimie could beat. Tyrion choosing trial by combat basically kicked that idea in the head.Tywin didn't have much use for Tyrion but didn't want him killed.
