Mrstrategy
How long would it take for someone (let's say Targaryen loyalist with wealth)to have their own men infiltrate the gold cloak's specially leadership position after Robert rebellion with enough men to make a difference or at least make a pyrrhic defeat against the rest of the gold cloak's as well as any Lannister/stormlander household guards specially trying to avoid being detected by varys or baelish or other important lords or members of royal court? Aebram
I don't think it could be done. The number of men in the City Watch is mentioned in various places in the books, ranging from 2000 to 6000. So the number of infiltrators would have to be quite high, from several hundred to a few thousand. It would take a long time, months or years, to insert or recruit that many turncloaks. With so many men knowing the secret, it's only a matter of time until someone lets it slip. The truth would come out before the Targs could assemble a force large enough to accomplish their goal. Groo
That depends on what you're trying to accomplish. If you want the Gold Cloaks to actively turn and fight against the throne then @Aebram is right. You would need too many infiltrators to do it. The regular men wouldn't just follow a few turncloak leaders. If, on the other hand, you just need the Gold Cloaks to step aside at a key point then it would be sufficient to have just a few leaders as infiltrators. They could, for example, deliberately station too few guards at a key gate or send large numbers of men in the wrong directions.
