Donald Sutherland is my first choice for the Old Bear - Jeor Mormont. He's got gravitas, the voice, the age, and he's huge... throw some black furs on him to beef up the shoulders and he'd be imposing as hell for any Samwell Tarly.
I could totally se that and cast Kifer and Jorah, that would be too cool.

ETA: I've always seen Sam Elliott as the Blackfish. Older, grizzled, wise, and still active. The Blackfish always struck me as straight out of a Western.

It's a small cameo role, but Brian Dennehy as Lord Hoster Tully.

Damien Lewis as Edmure Tully... he's a natural redhead (so his coloring is right), and he was great in Band of Brothers (has worked HBO in the past).

Ian McDiarmid as Ser Stevron Frey. He's the right age, has the Frey chin, and it'd be great to see him as a legitimate good guy for a change.

I might of mentioned him already, but just in case... Gene Wilder as Lord Walder Frey. Lord Frey needs someone with comedic timing because, evil as he is, he's written as comic relief. You need someone who can deliver the biting comments and look old with a lecherous gleam.

While we don't see him 'till ACoK, Colin Mochrie would be incredibly creepy as Patchface.
Mickey Rourke as Sandor Clegane

How can there be any other choice?

1. He looks like his brother shoved his face in a fire already.

2. He has great acting chops.

3. He has size.

For those who doubt, rent Sin City, watch Sin City, revel in the character that is Marv, and say to yourself "How could anyone else ever be the hound?"

As for heights, this is TV, but I once asked GRRM in one of our phone calls about heights and he figured Sandor to be around 6'5 or 6'6, and Gregor pushing 7'.

I also don't think you need an "actor" to play Gregor. He has very few lines. He gets pissed off and kills his horse, he gets pissed off and storms out of court. He presides over a rape scene, and then he has a few lines during his duel. After which he becomes a frankenstein and we'll assume no more acting is required. IE, I see them going with a professional wrestler type for Gregor, not an actor. In total he is more a plot device than a character.

Sandor, however, requires an actor, an actor named Mickey Rourke.

Walder Frey - the great Christopher Lloyd. Yes, he's not THAT old, but he's looking much older these days and could definitely pull it off. Also, his house just burned down in the wild fires out in California so he might be looking to do more work again (actually, his IMDb listing has a lot of productions just finishing up for him, so I guess he has been busy - I just haven't much of him for a while).

I always picture Wade Williams as Janos Slynt. Actually I don't know if it is more the actor or the character of Brad Bellick (Prison Break) that does it. :)

Sorry if this has been mentioned. I didn't have time to read the entire thread.

I like him to.
Randy Quaid would be something along the same lines. Just a bit older and more grizled.
His picture on this site screams Janos slynt to me.

I would like to suggest actorAvery Clark as a potential cast member. In my opinion, he would be very well suited to playing Theon Greyjoy or Jon Snow. Others have also mentioned Marillion or Ser Waymar Royce. His has an impressive resume of experience in both theatre and film, and his reviews make it clear that he is a talented and versatile young actor. He is also a devoted fan of the books, and I think ASOIAF fans would appreciate seeing a true fan playing one of the characters. I hope if the producers read this, they will consider my suggestion. If others agree, please say so, I'm sure Mr. Clark would appreciate it.
