From a TV perspective having the bones be pale is just easier than having to go into some time wasting exposition explaining to the uninitiatied that dragon bones are black. It's not even an issue because when does the colour of dragon bone become even a minor plot point? Never as far as I can recall.

It is. It's a scene from the pilot that has remained in, by the looks of it. I think in the 15 minute reel Linda and I saw, there's another shot of him in the line-up that looks like it was from the reshoots, where he was shaved but his hair was longer and was brushed back in such a way to kinda-sorta look like it did at the pilot. Trying to match things up, I thought at the time, but it was hard to say.

I did hear that quite a few shots were preserved from Doune, so this may be an example of that.
