I read ASOIAF because I find the politics and the human characters exceptionally interesting. The idea that they may all just be wiped out by three dragons and a rabble of zombies makes me quite angry. I really hope that quote is not true. I rather hope that, in reality, the greatest enemy facing these characters in Westeros is each other. Anyway, to sum up: The Others are an integral part of the story and I like Stannis. I think it might be a slight overreaction to smash your head against the wall (atleast that's what your emoticons is leading me to believe you're doing...) That's pretty far away from being a zombie.Forgive me, my knowledge of zombies isn't all that advanced, but I presumed they were 'undead' people with only a shadow of human understanding and very little compassion/goodness.I started reading asoiaf because a friend told me that GRRM had based some of it on the War of the Roses, which is one of my favourite periods of British History. It was a brutal civil war between two Great Houses, with many lesser Houses involved. As a historian, that is what pulled me in. The Others (and Dany's dragons for that matter) are only on the 'fringe' of this storyline... what I consider to be the main storyline. I do like how the reason Westeros do not fear wights and Others is because they have moved away from 'supernatural' to 'manmade' threats in their life. This shows that the characters are relying more on rational thought and science over grumkins. Tyrion, my second favourite character, is the very embodiment of this. He is the Humanist, the one who knows that a man's mind can be as powerful as his sword and that there is a different type of glory to be sought from discovering the truth and the rational.
