How much time for TWOW?

I know no one can say exactly, but do we know where does the writing stand? I realized that by 2012 Martin finished 200 pages or something like that, is it safe to say it will be done at 2014 or its too optimistic?

One of the rules of the board is not to discuss the possible release date of future books. You are new, and perhaps don`t know this, but this thread might be soon locked, and it`s better to know why.

And yes, 2014 is too optimistic.

Considering Martin only began to seriously start writing this year, 2014 is possible.

You can tell from the tone of his interviews and blog up until the end of 2012 that he was writing at a very slow and relaxed pace, but has now begun to devote and invest his time into the book this year.

Even GRRM doesn't know that. 2014 would be great, but 2015 is a more realistic guess.

A lot longer than its going to take for this thread to get locked.

Martin doesnt even know the answer and he doesnt give out detailed updates of his progress. Last I heard he said he had a quarter done or something and Im not even positive it was a real quote. Theres no real way for any of us to guess, cause none of us actually know, so its kinda useless and taking up space. If he did come out and say that hes so many pages done, then maybe we have something to talk about.

To be clear: discussing progress on the books is fine if/when there is solid news to talk about, but random guessing and speculation in the absence of such information is pointless. It serves no purpose, and in the past has often led to acrimony and bad feeling. Hence, we discourage it.
