Thought these were perfect suggestions, particulary Chris Walken as Loras (I'm thinking Deer Hunter-era) Beauty and grace with more than a hint of danger.

Actually, I'm more proud for putting Harvey Keitel. His Mr. White from "Reservoir Dogs" is close to how I imagine Davos. Minus the criminal mentality, of course. His loyalty to Mr. Orange is memorable. In an interview, Tarantino said that while attending some film school he had to analyze the subtext of his script for "Dogs", and in the process he realized Mr. White and Mr. Orange are in the roles of "father" and "son". Well, Davos/Stannis can't be too far from that. Stannis being without a proper father figure in his childhood and all.

Forgot all about Mr. White for some reason. Excellent point, he would be great in that role-

@ NotYourSir BTW, I started a General ASoIaF thread: "It's the year 2000. You are hired as GRRM's editor" -inspired by our conversation yesterday.

Saw it, read all the posts so far, interesting stuff. I even thought about posting, but realized I'd add nothing I didn't already wrote in that post from yesterday. And wasting internet space without a reason is the bigger sin than flaying whales, if you ask me. So I gave up. Tanks for the invite, in any case. I'll continue to follow it. And, provided I come up with something interesting, I'll jump in, no doubt.

Malkovich is a great idea.

I was thinking Jeff Bridges for Mance Raydar

A couple afterthoughts:

Quentyn Martell - Bud Cort (Harold & Maude)

Daario Naharis - Brad Pitt

Sandor Clegane - Robert Ryan (The Set-Up, On Dangerous Ground, The Wild Bunch)

Petyr Baelish - Robert Downey Jr.

Robb Stark - (young) Tom Cruise

Jaime Lannister - Heath Ledger (older than he ever got :crying: )

Ian McKellen as Qyburn

Younger Hugh Jackman as Bronn

Viggo Mortenson as Jory

Cary Grant in his prime as Renly Baratheon, or older as Barristan Selmy

Naveen Andrews as the Red Viper of Dorne

Cate Blanchett as Lysa Tully

Mel Gibson as Ser Jorah

If they show Rhaegar-era people in flashbacks, these are a few of my picks.

Late-teens Liv Tyler as Lyanna

Younger Marion Cotillard as Elia Martell

Ben Barnes as a young Red Viper

GoT may have the best cast on television, but if you had your choice of film actors from any time in history, who would you choose? You may think the current cast member is better than anyone else in history, but please stick to re-casting ideas for this thread. (Though I am having a hard time thinking of an alternate for Peter Dinklage in any era, to be honest)

A few suggestions of my own:

Robert Baratheon - Oliver Reed

Cersei - Marlene Dietrich

Petyr Baelish - Peter Sellers

Eddard Stark - Clint Eastwood

Varys - Peter Lorre

Bronn - Harry Dean Stanton

Danaerys Targaryen - Brigitte Bardot

You get the picture...

Considering you could pick anyone ever that is an interesting list. I would say no one on that list really fits the character and none are better than who was actually cast in the shoiw.
