E-Ro
Yeah, sorry. That's what I meant. But anyway, what's the point of splitting hairs on this? It's not like when people say "lizard lions are crocodiles" people see <a data-ipb="nomediaparse" data-cke-saved-href="http://images.wikia.com/pokemon/images/0/0d/Ash" href="http://images.wikia.com/pokemon/images/0/0d/Ash" s_krookodile.png"="">this.Link doesnt work, at least for me. Anyway, I think the crocodiles and lizard lions are different from each other. I have a theory the lizard lions prey on gaters, but im not sure. E-Ro
That's actually pretty close to how I envision them.Yeah, I actually think that's how most people see them to. But everyone is afraid to say it because they will get shouted at and bullied by a very vocal minority that insists they are just crocodiles. Ludd
Well it seems pretty obvious to me. Lizrd Lions (aka alligators or crocodiles) are not seen in westeros except in the neck and so there is no westerosi word for them. Now somehow I assume the Neck to be quite a warm sort of swamp, with hot springs etc. I feel sure that alligators or crocs could live in this environment. They can live in temperate areas today, if not always in large numbers A quick google search tells us that crocodiles DID live in Europe in Roman times found in Spain and elsewhere. Mind you crocs and dragons are often taken for one another, so maybe these Lizard lions are dragon hatchlings

Of course the fact that lizard comes first in the nomenclature of the animal tells it it is slightly more lizard then lion but that doesn't mean it is lacking In lion features. Most likely the have a lions mane of fur and claws along with scales in vulnerable points for protection. They most likely lay eggs so are more reptile then mammal. But the lion features cannot be overlooked. If they were just crocs I don't know were the lion part of the name came from as crocs look nothing like lions. Old-Growth
I suspect that "lion" is being used metaphorically for "fearsome predator". So I say they are 'gators. To be sure crocs can be bigger and meaner, but they are mostly old world beasts, and Westeros is the new world (well sorta....)Anyway, here are Jerry and the boys with a couple of live performances from the late sixties of their song "Alligator".http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8jEaqDFQnGM http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5t--8fz1jSo

Old-Growth
Now alligators are reptiles; I suspect that dragons are not. Perhaps they are the Westorosi equivalent of dinosaurs, the which it seems may have been warmblooded and, IIRC are now put in a different phylum from snakes and the like. mindchap
If the OP is still reading, I live in the south(US) and the neck sounds to me like the Okefenokee Swamp, and it is full of alligators which is what I pictured when reading. There is also this in heraldry that shows House Reed and that is an alligator.
