Balaurderaa
Merrett Frey mentions that Black Walder refuses to marry, something about cows and udders I forget the exact quote, but he also mentions that he has had affairs with Edwyn/Petrys wives, the 7th lady Frey and several of his cousins. Surely this casts doubts on the paternity of several young Frey's Notably Roslin and Olyvar (if they turned out to be Black Walder's bastards how might that affect the story)
ladydewinter
I thought the 6th lady Frey was a Rosby, Roslin, and Oliver's mother?
ladydewinter
If I am wrong that would be worse than them already being Frey's. But, those two already distance themselves and Roslin is probably glad she is now a Tulley. I cannot see how it would come up and the current Lord Frey is so petty if he knew he was a cuckold he would never say he would probably arrange an untimely death for that lady Frey. Slender Aimry Hill
It's Lady Annara Frey nee Farring whose, heh, honour is in question.
The BlackBear
It's Lady Annara Frey nee Farring whose, heh, honour is in question. I see what you did there. Heh. Though if they are bastards I can't see that affecting the story hardly at all. Walders womanising might though, we know there are tensions within the Frey household between different sets of brothers, come Walders death a lot of Freys are going to be out on their arses and since we know the Lannisters are looking for scapegoats; off with their heads. ladydewinter
Ok, I didn't think it was the sixth lady Frey. Thank you, for the very detailed information.
Hardstone
Maybe old Lord Walder has been sterile for a number of years and he asked his great-grandson to pick up the slack to keep up the appearance of him being the man of the house. Too many children is actually a bad thing in a Medieval setting, you have too many children you have to provide for them all, you get power struggles within the family (I believe GRRM has commented on this with regards to the Freys), hence the major cull that's coming. So I doubt Walder wants more children anymore than he's just a Lecherous old bugger. I furthermore doubt that the famed Frey fertility would just run out. Jon's Queen Consort
I think that you got it wrong. Annara Farring was rumored that slept with Black Walder and the kids in question are: Arwyn, Wendel, Colmar, Waltyr, Elmar and Shirei.
Sordelor
No, they're too old for being BW's children.

Moreover, the fact that the house shares it name with the Norse god for fertility should more than imply that Walder's impressive quality of spunk is indeed real. Rhaenys_Targaryen
No, they're too old for being BW's children. Why would they be too old to be Black Walders? Black Walders father Ryman was born between 248 and 258 AL. Ryman was the firstborn son, he was the heir, and thus had to marry young and have heirs on his own. BW is the second born son of Ryman. I'd place BW's year of birth between 263 and 273 AL, so let's say 268 AL, since it's the middle of those two. Annara Farrings eldest child is Arwyn Frey, born in 284 AL. That would have made Black Walder around 16 years old. So it is possible that at least some of her children are actually Black Walders, if the rumours are true. Slender Aimry Hill
Yes, Annara is, as agreed above, in a dubious plight - Sordelor was I think saying Lady Bethany Rosby's children (most of the 'nice' Freys) are too old to be so tainted...
